Yeah, the injectibles are pricey. Gonal-F, which is the FSH, is about $700 per 900ml pen (multiple doses, depending on your prescribed dose). Repronex, another FSH, is $250-$350, I think. The hcg (trigger) is cheap, only about $50 per pre-filled syringe. I can't remember how much the progesterone in ethyl oleate is, or the Lupron. But my partner and I are finishing up our first cycle of IVF, and our meds, all told, will be close to $3,000. Now, they had us order the Repronex and we didn't use it this cycle because she responded well to the Gonal. We also ordered a second Gonal pen and only used one 75ml dose out of it. But we used lupron, gonal (2 pens), ovidrel (2 prefilled syringes), and lots of progesterone in ethyl oleate. Our first Gonal pen was free, the RE's office does a program where people who have unused drugs they're not going to use donate them and they're passed on to people who are paying out of pocket (like we were). Your friend should see if her RE does anything like that. I just realized you said IVF was out of the question, sorry, but I do think some of the injectibles are the same either way. Good luck!

LH: Menopur (Only one I've used)

Lupron, Cetrotide, Ganerelix and Antigon are used to stop ovulation.

HCG Trigger

Definitely ask your Re's office if they ever get donations. Also, you should try Freegaragesale.com. There are always tons of women selling left over meds. You can usually get this stuff half price if not better than that.

You ARE a sweet angel to be doing research for your friend! That is awesome and I'm sure she super-appreciates it. Does your friend know what her diagnosis is? If she has unexplained infertility a recent study found that Clomid is no more effective in treating it than just doing nothing. I think most dr.s think injectables are superior though it's true they do cost much more. The best piece of advice I could give your friend is to see a specialist--a reproductive endocrinologist--asap if she hasn't already. OB/GYNs just don't have enough experience with this stuff. Look on resolve.org and try their hotline for referrals (I think it is 888-623-0744). Or you can call the American Infertility Association (888-917-3777 or 718-621-5083). It's KEY to get the right care. You don't want to waste time with someone who doesn't know what to look for or the best way to treat you. Good luck to you and your friend!

She does go to an RE and hes the one that said he couldnt do the clomid anymore because shes already done it for two 6 month periods. Plus shes tried another one for 2 or 3 months now. I wanted to find some info about injectables for her because he said this is the next step for her besides having a lap. surgery, and then IVF. I work with her but we both also go to the same RE I go because I dont have trouble getting pregnant I have trouble keeping the pregnany after its established. I've had 4 miscarriages and I'm pregnant now for the 5th time. So I kind of understand her anger, pain, sadness. I know my situation is different but I still understand. Thanks again. Hugs Monica.
