ICSI

What does everyone think about ICSI? two of my 4 mature eggs didnt make it past the icsi process-my friend told me that it is somewhat controversial- does anyone know anything about it? There is not an issue with my husbands sperm but they said that at my age- (almost 39) that ICSI is the way to go

We will be doing ICSI because our issue is male factor. DH has low morphology so our RE indicated that would give us our best chances. I pray that your other embies do well! I have my fingers crossed for you!

I had 14 eggs, so they did ICSI on 1/2 of them. 9 fertilized normally - 4 ICSI, 5 non-ICSI. On day 5, we transferred 4 embryos: 3 from the non-ICSI group, including a blast, and 1 from the non-ICSI group. For us, the non-ICSI group did much better. Male factor was not an issue.

I truly hope they pull a miracle for you = it's been known to happen!

I think that children born via ICSI have a slightly higher level of mental retardation. I'm not sure what the numbers are. I think that's why it's controversial.

We don't have MF either, but our fertilization rates were low w/ our first IVF, so our RE recommended ICSI w/ our 2nd. Fertilization rates did improve somewhat, and we will also be doing ICSI w/ our 3rd fresh cycle in February.

We have male factor and for every time we do IVF we will always do ICSI. I had 9 eggs and all 9 fertilized and I am doing my frozen transfer with 2 blasts, so I am a big fan of the whole thing. Good luck to you and let your doc guide you. He knows what is best for your situation.
