My DH is going out of town for about 2 weeks and will be unable to give me my shots. In the meantime, I have been going crazy looking for someone to help me. I spoke with my RE's nurse on Friday and she said if I still couldn't find anyone then I may possibly do SubQ injections as oppose to IM!!!! NOW she knows I have been having a hard time why would she not recommend this a month ago!!! I just don't understand. SO I guess I will call her tomorrow and let her know I don't have anyone to help me so I need to administer the shots on my own. Does anyone know if my prescription medications will change???? AND I will be starting Lupron on 20 Sept!!! I'm nervous but excited!!!!!!!

What shots are you needing help with? Lupron is easy to give yourself and beleive it or not I even gave myself the progesterone IM shots a couple of times when my DH wasn't able to. Depending on what you are doing your medication may change. Are you doing IVF, IUI, ????? Whatever you are doing though know you can count on yourself and yes you can give the shots to yourself. Think positive and stay calm. I'm here for you okay. I know it may be scary at the beginning but you'll be fine.

I haven't taken them yet myself, but some girls on my other board just give themselves the shots in their thigh if their DH is out of town. HTH

It is possible to give yourself IM shots, you can go in your thigh or if you sit on a chair with a cheek kinda hanging off and twist you will be able to reach your butt fine to give yourself injections. But if it should be IM then it should be given IM and not SQ that could effect how things are absorbed. Good luck

If the medication is prescribed IM, it's best to give it that way. It absorbs quicker, and more of the medication gets absorbed.
Taking IM meds Sub-Q is only a "last ditch" effort, because you won't absorb the medication in as high of a quantity or as quickly.
Do you have any nurses in your church congregation or circle of friends? Even 2 friends who are willing to switch off days or alternate? Otherwise, I would say read up on self-injection and do it yourself. The first few times will be scary, but it's a necessary evil.

This is a little bizarre, but when I lived in Mexico I needed a shot and I had the medicine (brought from the US). I went to the grocery store to get a hypodermic needle (!) and then went to a CONVENT. The nuns there did the injection for me. So it just goes to show that there are some surprising options sometimes. Maybe Google has your answer!
