Are any of you ladies on a private insurance that covers fertility, or do you or your husband have your own business where you are self employed, & were able to find a business insurance for self employment that covers fertility? I hope this insurance question makes sense to you, because my husband & I are trying to find insurance that covers fertility & we're not having the luck that we thought we would yet. Any advice, tips or help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you don't live in a state that requires IF coverage, it may be very hard to find.

My DH and I have solid jobs and neither place covers IF. We pay all out of pocket and it sucks so IUI is probably our only hope.

I agree with henordberg, its weird because I have blue cross blue shield, and I have had my policy for several years and it does have fertility coverage with some limitations. However, when I wanted to obtain a separate but identical policy for my husband they would not cover him. However they stated that if I extend my coverage to have family coverage then they would cover fertility treatments(minus the limitations)
Have you consulted with a fertility center, they usually publish a list of insurance providers that offer some if not full coverage for infertility.

my husband had pretty much one of the best insurance offered in our city from his job and it doesnt cover IF so everything is out of pocket for us as well. but then again we are not from a state that requires it. good luck!

i live in NY & have advanced fertility coverage from Oxford (liberty) . it covers everything for advanced treatment up to 10k including meds. so ivf is included in this. iui is basically unlimited tries. i believe my job had to purchase the advanced coverage though. hope this helps. good luck!

I also live in KS and as you know it is not a state that mandates coverage therefore we have paid ALL out of pocket for EVERYTHING! I really do envy those who have coverage I can't imagine how much less stressful that would be - Good luck!!

Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong but I think Massachusetts is the ONLY state with a mandate requiring health insurance companies to cover all fertility treatments (including IVF). In which state do you live? Hang in there! Sorry I am not much help. BEST of luck to you!

California also mandates IF coverage , but only partial coverage. Even though we live in FL my DH's company is out of CA so that is how we have coverage.

Catlover I think RI also has the same mandate. SweetPea, as has been said if your state does not require coverage you may be shit out of luck in getting an insurance to cover it. NY requires partial coverage so my insurance covers everything but IVF.....which of course is our ONLY option so we pay that out of pocket.

we live in GA and have very good health insurance, but it doesn't cover any fertility treatment, only diagnostic testing for infertility.

I live in Texas. I am self-employed and have a private insurance through my business. We have Aetna. It covers all testing for diagnosing but not treating infertility UNLESS I sign up for it. My insurance renews in May. Because my RE says I'm not considered "infertile" unless I've been trying for 1 year after my d&c, my hubby is thinking of not opting for the fertility coverage this year. I think we have to pay like $250 more per month for the coverage.
