I feel frustrated

In 2014, I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid... I thought that was the issue why I was not getting pregnant after 5 years... My periods were still irregular so I ask Obgyn for specialist... I started seeing a fertility specialist in 2015... After blood tests, x-ray, and ultrasound, I was diagnosed with PCOs and tilted uterus. I had 1 year of consistent femara and 6 iuis but no sign of prego. My Dr without a doubt believed I would be prego after the first, the second, the third... I think you get the hint. So then, my Dr gave my husband and I an option for me to have surgery to check anatomy or IVF. We agreed with surgery, but then Dr started to say actually I don't think surgery will be the best option... Dr said IVF would be the best option. So, we told Dr IVF is not in our budget and we want surgery, but Dr said let's do follitism instead because it is least expensive treatment and it overstimulates my ovaries. So we agreed, but then we started to get a feeling Dr did not want to work with us anymore because I called nurse on Day 2 and she told me Dr is not moving forward with treatment. We are frustrated because we felt Dr withheld treatment option follitism, made money off of us for 2 years, dr never remembered me or my case when I met with dr, aggressively pushed ivf, and always rushed to next visit instead of taking time to answer any of our questions. Now, I am looking for another fertility specialist and interested in the option follitism. Any success in follitism? I am praying and searching for a fertility specialist who truly cares and will educate/help me to conceive babies.

Hello, I Know how you feel! I did 7 rounds of femara no sucess. The doctor I was seeing I felt that they just kept wanting to do more rounds without taking inconsideration that this is not working. I got fed up and found a new doctor that actually gave me some answers. I tried one round of follistism it’s not bad, i was very nervous trying this because there were so many instructions but it got easier day by day. I actually do prefer to first try this before IVF because this does stimulate your your ovaries. i recommend everyone to do a laparoscopy to check for endometriosis. I did have that so we are waiting now to see if we can try on our own without treatments.

It is interesting how you mentioned laparoscopy. My doctor cancelled the surgery that was scheduled for Nov 9 because he changed his mind and believed it would be pointless to have surgery because I did not have any pelivc pain. Also, he said it would a waste of money and time to go in and find nothing. Did you have laparoscopy done? If so, What did your doctor find?

Honestly insurance basically covers most of it if you get the dx codes you can call and see how much out of pocket expense it would be. But the laparoscopy was one of the best things I have done intercourse was starting to be painful and when I had told them they were starting to think it was endometriosis. now probably your dr is saying this because he doesn’t want to open you open and find nothing and make it seem like it was a waste of time and money but to be honest it’s worth it to rule out endometriosis. When they did the scope they indeed did find endometriosis and were able to scrape it out and hopefully it will help us try without treatments. Endometriosis has a lot to do with infertility.

Thanks for the information! It was very helpful. My husband and I are planning on seeing a new doctor after the first of year for a second opinion. I will make sure to mention laparoscopy. I hope you can achieve your pregnancy without treatments. I would love to accomplish the same. It is so much money to attempt to go through treatments a fertility doctor.

So glad to hear that, took a lot of money to realize i needed a second opinion. So now I am making sure everyone has the confidence to do so without wasting more money. Make sure you let them know you want the scope to rule out endometriosis.

I agree with everyone else regarding laparoscopy. This would help rule out endometriosis. Most insurance will cover this so the out of pocket expense isn't too bad. I hope you find a doctor who is actually interested in you as a concerned patient and not someone with dollar signs in their eyes.

Hi Believeallthingsarepossible, thanks for sharing your story! I am sorry you had such a crappy experience with your doctor. I too saw a fertility specialist who seemed to just want to jump the gun and go straight to IVF without first trying to find out why I wasn't getting pregnant. She didn't seem to care much and I felt like I was just a patient to her and not a person with emotions. I sought a second opinion, this time from a doctor with a more natural approach. He specializes in NaPro Technology and basically tries to find the cause of infertility instead of just prescribing medications for it. He told me all my labs were normal and suggested laparoscopy even though I didn't have any pelvic pain because the #1 symptom of endometriosis is infertility. He called it asymptomatic endometriosis. He said a lot of healthy women who are diagnosed with "unexplained infertility" actually have some endometriosis and the laparoscopy can either confirm it or rule it out. I am waiting to get mine done next month so my fingers are crossed that maybe it can help us (we have been actively trying for a year). Best of luck to you and baby dust!

Thanks for the response! I am very curious about the laparoscopy now. I was very frustrated when my previous doctor backed out but I am hoping to find a new one who will consider all of the options.

I think this is a really great idea to change a doctor! I'm shocked at a behavior of your dr. He's not a professional at all! This is so weird and unprofessional that he treated you that way. When you face fertility problems you want your dr to be attentive. You believe them and waiting for results. This is really sad to understand that you were only wasting your time and money. I hope you will find a real professional who can help you for sure.
