Hi Everyone,
Sometimes the hardest part for me is all of the conflicting info. I am starting my stims tonight with my extraction scheduled for jan 27th. My FSH came back a little high- at 10.7- it has stayed at under ten for a year and a half since my first 10.5 FSH. My RE ( who is fantastic and an expert in the field) is not worried and says thats only slightly abnormal-esp judging from my US-follies are even and so far there are 7 before stims. My Acupuncturist however always likes a number under 10 for IVF and they like you to wait and do some months of treatment and herbs to get the numbers down. I am going to go ahead and trust my RE but have been beatingmyself up- have not been as consistent with the herbs and acupuncture as I have been in past. I think I just got burnt out of constantly thinking about my TTC and drinking the muddy tea!!
Anyway, I know that the positive thoughts matter the most but I was just looking for some feedback from you all.
Thanks!
Courtney

Hi Courtney, I am in the early stages of infertility, my RE thinks my tubes are blocked from the HSG I had back in Dec, so I will be having Lap surgery Feb 1. So I am sorry that I cannot shed some light on the IVF/FSH situation with you at the moment. I am 38 in March and I hear you with the pressure that can put on us(age). I wish you all the best through your journey to motherhood and if you need anything I'm only an email away. :)

Hi. I don't do acupuncture. I am certainly not opposed, but I just haven't gotten there. Anyway-my FSH 1 year ago was 12.5. My RE didn't even tell me, because they didn't think it was a big deal. Then, this October, they found out it was 14.8. Then they told me it was too high, but that it was still OK for IVF. My RE told me that at my age, it was a fine number. I have spoken with other ladies, and their numbers are much higher than mine, and some of them are pregnant. Don't know if this helps, but blessings to you.

My FSH was also a 10.7, unfortunately accupuncture did not work for me. My first IVF was cancelled due to a poor response. I was only able to get 1 mature follicle. However, my second IVF we retrieved 4 mature follicles. They all fertilized and we transferred two in December. I got my BFP right before christmas. Both of them took, unfortunately, one of them is not growing and I will most likely miscarry but the other is strong and healthy. Good luck to you.

FWIW, from what I've been told and read, it is the highest FSH that you've had that is important. "Getting it down" doesn't really translate to an increased likelihood of improved fertility. So I think that if anything, a higher number should be telling you to go ahead, move forward, and be aggressive in your treatment, in case your fertility is starting to wane. 10.7 is pretty borderline, so not a big deal, but I don't think that waiting for months of acupuncture and herbs (which are of unproven value anyway, scientifically speaking) is likely to help you much. Different people have different opinions, of course. Good luck in your journey.

I have a high FSH as well (13.8) and did acupuncture for 3 months before my IVF and during the process. I think doing the acupuncture and your age (I am 33) are more important, you will stay calm and your chances are good. I did my first IVF in Dec and now am pregnant with twins. I really feel doing acupuncture helped me but at the end of the day I always listened to my RE. Good luck, I hope you get your BFP.

I also have high FSH and will be doing IVF. My last 2 IUI cycles my FSH was over 14. The doctor said that just means a more agressive protocol. But he did not feel at my age it would be a problem at all for me. He said a FSH for someone at 30 is not a problem, but the older you get the more of an issue it can be.
