We got a loan. My parents and in-laws are putting in $100 per month to help. People get loans for cars and houses, why not this? I am currently 5 weeks pregnant and really happy that we went through it.
We also applied for a grant but didn't get it. You may have luck. $50 registration fee but worth it if you're chosen.

Thanks for your input, we have been considering getting a loan. I looked at some of the grant sites but they are only offered once or twice a year and I really don't want to wait any more than I already have. Loan it is I guess :) Congrats by the way, hopefully I can say the same thing at some point in the near future!

I was lucky enough to have insurance - very rare and I thank heaven for that every day. but had that not been the case, we would have taken a loan. people take loans for much less important things every day!

We were lucky enough to have family that could help. But a lot of people go the loan route. I would shop around. I know some medical loans have better interest rates than others. Don't forget to factor in meds. Some loans do not allow you to do meds and others do.

A go fund me page is a great idea, even if you just get a portion! My hubby and I live in MA where it's mandated by law, but my company didn't cover it (because of a loop hole). I asked for coverage, and we finally got it. It took almost a full year, but for us it was worth the wait, and worth the shot. Our backup plan was to just save as we go. We were saving for our first round by sacking away money, saving bonuses, and any other "extra" money we came upon. It took almost the year but we were close. Luckily, we didn't need it so it became a much needed savings. Many people also just get loans. Debt is no fun, but if you are OK with it, it will be worth it no matter the outcome.

I hope you get some help, and are able to get enough saved. And, also know that you can write a lot off in taxes. So save receipts and do some research on how to write it off. It may help a little.

I have several friends that did a loan route or a partial loan route. We saved as we went. If you choose to go the loan route what I would do is shop around for a good Reproductive Endocrinology team that offers package deals (even if it's out of state but in driving distance) You will get more bang for your buck that way. A package deal would be several fresh cycle IVFs for your money that maybe include a free FET. Or shop around for the places that offer almost 100% money back if for some reason something happens and they can't use your eggs for one cycle or something like that. This way you feel that you are getting the MOST for your money and it's not a one time shot if that is all the money you have, for just a one time deal. A close friend of mine in Cali spent 18 thousand dollars that was good for three rounds of fresh cycle IVFs in a package deal and because those didn't take (she had very low egg reserve & is 43) The RE was kind enough to give them a fourth round IVF for free and they now have a precious little baby boy because of the kindness of that particular Doc. There are a lot of RE clinics out there like that, you just have to shop around for them. I wish you the best of luck on this fsugrad05.

A family member mentioned to us to start a fundraiser but I was too impatient, so we got a loan through a credit union. Their rates were a lot lower then the creditors that the Fertility clinics offer. Now we are back at square one and we will probably have to wait until next year before we are able to try again. I am struggling with how I was able to pay for IVF. The honest truth is that my mother died and her insurance policies left my father and I quite a bit of money. I am so thankful that I am able to afford it but it's confusing to be thankful when the reason is because you no longer have your mother.
