You are going through a lot as is and infertility is another burden. I'm happy to hear that you and your husband are seeking help. I know your biological clock is ticking ( I'm 37), but maybe you and your husband can take a break from fertility treatments for a few months and just focus on healing your relationship. You will need to heal your relationship in order to parent together. I will be praying for you.
The only people I feel really do understand are the ladies here and a couple of my friends who are also struggling with IF. (I am 37, I have quite a few.)
I had a miscarriage in the end of November, and in some ways it's actually been good for my marriage. Without the pressure of baby-making sex, my husband and I have been able to be intimate much more spontaneously. I don't feel anxious all the time with the could-I-be-pregnant feelings. (Of course now it's been two months and I am so ready for my cycle to start again... no sign of that happening... so I am anxious AGAIN... but I digress...) So perhaps taking a little time off from trying will help a little bit? I know it feels like time is getting short, but with your marital concerns maybe a little time that's just the two of you would be just what the doctor (and counselor) ordered.
My husband and I had a very good counseling session together yesterday and I have an individual session tonight. I am working to do like you said, Shawnie, and to focus on healing right now. And your story of a miscarriage breaks my heart for you Halter. I'm so sorry for your loss.
If I can do anything to help either of you cope or offer words of support and kindness, please let me know! I am so grateful for your encouragement. God Bless you.
Your story sounds so much like mine. I have been TTC for 13 years. Been with a few men in those years with no luck. I have been with my husband now for 4 years and nothing. Never had a BFP. I have had periods a day or two late and it get my hopes way up and take a pg test and get a BFN along with a bloody mess within a day of the test.
I am also tired of people saying they understand when they obviously don't.
I went to a couple different OB's and family dr's and no one took me serious when I said I wanted a family. I felt so alone and didn't know what to do. I actually quit going to the OB for close to 5 years because I felt like what's the use. They don't care what I have to say and won't take me serious when I do talk.
I recently changed OB and every other Dr I use. When I called to make the app with my OB's office the first thing they asked was the reason for the visit. Of course I needed my regular test, but I also told them I wanted to try and have a family.
On my way in to the OB I called my husband and asked if he could make it to the app because I have anxiety issues around new people. He couldn't because of work.
I was quickly called back to a room and told to wait on the OB. As soon as my new OB walked through the door she said, "I see you want to have a family. How long have you been with your husband? Have you been on birth control? I am going to write you a RX for Clomid. Is there any other concerns or questions you have for me?" Of course there was more talking between each question, but you get the gist. As she was walking out the door she turned to me looked in my eyes and said, " I look forward to delivering your baby in the very near future". She also gave me a collection cup to have my husband checked. I have never had anyone actually take the time to take me seriously.
Hopefully you will find the same. I know how frustrating it is to want something so badly and feel like no one really knows what you're going through. I will keep you in my thoughts. Good luck to you!
For the first time in my life I was heard.
I have to say I have been through so many of the emotions you are feeling. No , people who have children just don't get it. They have precious miracles walking around them every day, so they cant possibly understand what it is to want that for such a long time.
And when my sister in law tells me about her 5 months of 'infertility' when she and her husband where trying to conceive their daughter... NO that doesn't mean you understand what my 3 years of trying to conceive has been like!
And in my moments of doubt, I have felt like God doesn't trust me to raise a precious child... and that it just isn't intended for my life. I know in my heart that it isn't true, but in my moments of weakness those thoughts can reduce me to tears in seconds.
Stay hopeful and keep working hard to build your marriage back up. I know that this process has been very difficult on my husband and I, and I am married to an amazing and supportive man. But even we have struggled with the stress and strain of this process, physically, intimately, emotionally and financially. It is a roller coaster, but it is worth it. And I pray that it will all make sense some day!
I will be praying for all of us!
