Things have been so difficult for me since last thursday when i got the BFN from my MD office. Of course AF started that next day. I really had high hopes this time, it was our first time using injections with IUI (3rd total IUI) and my body responded well (5-6 good looking follicles). My husband also had great numbers for the iui as well and i started to take the progesterone. everyone seemed optimistic, except for me. I try not to be a debbie downer (that is not my personality at all) but i feel that everytime i get excited, it makes the negative results hurt so much more. this time i did get alittle hopeful because my AF was alittle late and it made it so difficult to deal with when i got the BFN. To top it off, we have to wait another month to do anything else because of how our vacation falls. so i feel like i am behind the 8 ball again. we are obviously going to try on our own but i dont have high hopes. So in the meantime, i have decided that i am going to train for a 1/2 marathon at the end of sept to try to keep my mind off things. i have done several halfs and 2 full marathons so running is not new to me. i haven't done a half in a while though. i am concerned that i will be at the end of the training when we would probably have our next iui. my doctor ensures me that exercise is fine and there are no restrictions after the iui's but i am concerned that i may disrupt something. Has anyone heard or read that you shouldn't be running while doing injections and iui?

Hey! First off I am sorry that it didn't work out this time. I agree with you though... I am not a debbie downer but, we have an IUI with shots coming up and I really don't think it's going to work. Honestly, I'll be shocked if it does. I am like you I think the worst so that if it turns out negative I won't be that disappointed! Running should be fine the only thing the dr said was that your ovaries get big so the running may aggravate your tummy a little but other than that it's okay. I can't think of any reason that running would be bad especially if you are used to it. Think of it this way the running may actually make you feel better and not be as moody and crappy from the shots/hormones.

I'm sorry you had another disappointment. As far as I understand it, running during the injections shouldn't be a problem, but running after the iui could raise your core body temp enough to damage/kill any swimmers and/or damage/kill any developing embryo. For a "normal" person, they may not think twice about it, but for women struggling to get preg/hold a pregnancy, we think about everything and being too hot is very detrimental to sperm/embryo's. So just keep that in mind for the day of the iui and any days following.

I am on my third IUI as well and i completely get where you are feeling down. It is very hard being positive and keeping high hopes and when the results come back negative it is devistating. As far as running goes i was told to not let my HR get over 140 (treating you as if you are pregnant) but only after the IUI. I was told physical activity is okay any other time but from the day of IUI to the pregnancy test to take it easy and not let HR get over 140 which when I run it gets to 160-180 so for me i can just do a fast paced walk. Hope that helps :) Best of luck to you!

thanks ladies. it's amazing how many different pieces of advice there is out there. i guess i have some thinking to do because the race is very expensive to run and of course i dont want to chance anything. the only thing my doctor told me was no hot tubs after iui but it definitely makes sense that running, especially longer distances will increase core and basal temperature. so many things to consider. i guess i am just frustrated that i live my life 2 weeks at a time with what i can do and shouldn't do.
