I just posted a thing about acupuncture...but as I was doing my peaceful acupuncture some family drama on my husbands side was developing. I hope it is ok to vent about this on here. It is just so upsetting. His drug dealing nephew's girlfriend went into labor. She smoked the whole time she was pregnant and did not eat. She barely looked pregnant at 9 months. Well at the hospital I guess she told the doctors she shot heroine that night. So now the baby is being kept in intensive care for 5 days to see if it has withdrawl symptoms. To top things off her mother didn't show up, the drug dealer father left the hospital with his drug dealing friends who where kicked out and wasn't there for the birth and my SIL had to be with her in the delivery room to hear all of this drug history. My SIL picked her up at her house and said the place was a squalor...food everywhere, broken window, and no baby furniture. A real pig pen. I am very worried about this baby as everyone in the family is. I don't want the baby to go back to this pig pen. It is just so horrible. They want everyone in the family to go to the hospital tonight...I can not do it. The whole situation just makes me sick. My husband and I are decent people who would make wonderful parents and for some unknown reason are not able to and then this mess has a baby she can't even take care of herself. It is so sad. The family is hoping she will be arrested so that they can then take the baby to raise it. Otherwise that baby is probably going to have a horrible life. It is just so sad...like something that happens on TV not real life.
Knowing the CYF (Children Youth and Families)system in PA, if you did feel this child was in danger you could call Childline anonymously and voice your concern. I imagine the hospital has already been in contact, I might go to visit just to make sure they did. You could also suggest the mother call herself. They can help her get services she would need (such as counseling, financial support, WIC, medical assistance, etc.) CYF in PA really does try to keep families together, however the quality of services varies greatly between counties.
