I'm 32 years old and I have had reproductive issues since I was about 18-19 years old. Endometriosis, countless ovarian cysts, and eventually left ovarian rupture...so now I only have part of my right ovary. Through all of this, I have had multiple surgeries, creating scar tissue, which led to my ONLY Fallopian tube becoming completely occluded. Long story short, my OBGYN told me that my only option to conceive would be IVF. (I'm lucky to have a very supportive husband) I found an IVF clinic about 5 hours away from home, and at the time I figured it would be worth it. So I decided to start the process, and started with the egg retrieval. It seemed hopeful in the beginning; we ended up with 6 "good" embryos. We didn't do genetic testing, thinking that since I'm technically young, we'd be ok. My first transfer, the embryologist had issues thawing the first embryo, so they had to thaw another one, and that one didn't thaw properly either. They advised me that they weren't a complete loss, so I should transfer them to see what happens. That ended in a chemical pregnancy. My second transfer never took. I just had my third frozen embryo transfer today, and I am feeling less than optimistic. The more times I do this, the more hopeless and numb I feel. I read things that say something like 50%-60% of healthy embryos implant, and that gets me down because it doesn't sound like good odds. It seems like everyone around me is pregnant or raising little ones, and it's hard to feel like I will ever get to that point. I honestly can not imagine ever having a successful pregnancy with a normal, healthy baby. I made the mistake of telling people when I started IVF bc I was excited about it, which led to comments like "I'll be your surrogate" which makes me feel even more inadequate. I feel like people, in general have NO IDEA what women go through with this process. I definitely didn't! I have so many needles/syringes from all the injections, it's ridiculous. So now, I wait for another pregnancy test...again, which is the worst part of this whole process. My mind goes crazy with negative thoughts!

Hi. It's been a bit since you posted and wanted to see how you are doing. I also have endometriosis (I am 33) and have had surgery as well. We have been TTC for about a year and just are in the middle of our first IVF. Pretty bummed today when they said they got 6 eggs and only one fertilized. I feel your pain. I am waiting to see if it makes it to transfer. Just an awful feeling. I hope you are doing ok.

Thank you for checking. IVF has been one of the biggest struggles of my life, as I'm sure it is for you too. I hope everything turns out ok for you. I'm sure it's awful having only one egg fertilize, especially when you go through so much with the egg retrieval. Hopefully, it'll be a strong embryo. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Try not to give up hope! You're strong for even going through the process!

This 3rd transfer worked for me, but there have been some issues. I started having bleeding at 5 weeks, which has continued. The doctor says I have a subchorionic hemorrhage, which typically has good outcomes, but occasionally doesn't. I feel like there always has to be complications and nothing can ever go smoothly. The doctor told me all the can do is monitor me and hope for the best. I thought that once I had a successful transfer, that everything would be perfect and happy, but that hasn't been the case for me. I feel more depressed and more negative than ever. I'm just waiting for everything to go wrong.

We may be related. Seriously. I lost my left overy from cysts that just made it detach. Occluded right overy, they told my husband his motility was so low that it looked like prostate cancer. Oh and were both 26. Of course we where married young, we've been trying for 6 years. But even with all of that, I got pregnant. I made it to my 7th week, miscarried on my 11th. I still ugly cry passing the baby isle at target. Don't let this ruin you. IVF isn't always a sure thing, but it could also be the stress of 'am I pregnant yet' Most people will say don't stress but we all know, you're going to stress like its the Barr. But manage it. Refocus yourself. Know you're not alone. And if all else fails, be sure that maybe you're just on a different path of motherhood. Adopt!

Although I hate to see others struggling, it brings me comfort knowing that there are people out there who can relate to my situation. I always feel so alone, and it's so depressing. I feel like I'm going crazy every single day! Thank you for the kind words :)

Stay positive and don't give up. A few friends of mine got pregnant after few failed IVF-s. One lady even travelled to top IVF clinic in Gdansk to fulfill her dreams.

I just joined today, I was trying to find some place where I could go where someone could relate. My BFF has a beautiful 6 month old and while she had a MC- she doesn't truly understand the hell I go through on a daily basis. I found out on Sunday 8/13 that my 3 day ET failed. This was our second IVF. Our first one was cancelled. I also only have a right ovary. I lost my left one in surgery due to a cyst. My right ovary has a very low reserve, my DR. said it is from the 2 surgeries that I have had. Every time they go in, it has a negative impact on egg reserve. Our second IVF we struggled to get 3 eggs, all mature. All three fertilized, however 2 abnormally. So I had one good egg. We did a day 3 transfer and I knew almost right away that it didn't work. I am so devastated. I just randomly cry and am rather upset with pregnant woman right now. I am not sure what to do next. Do we just give up? Do we look at donor eggs? Adoption? It's all just too much and I just wanted my IVF to work. I hope things are going well for both of you.

I am at the same crossroads as you. I am two weeks out from a failed IVF cycle, and I feel like I'm not coping well at all. I cry every time I think about it, and I'm not sure if I have the strength to go through another cycle. My dr retrieved 7 eggs, 5 of them fertilized and only 2 of them developed normally. They implanted both and neither took... my age is a big factor, I'm 39... not sure if it's worth it for me to keep trying.

Catmom1 - I just hit 2 weeks yesterday post failed IVF and it still isn't any easier. I feel empty. Not sure what to do. I keep looking at egg donors and adoption agencies. But I get overwhelmed by it all and stop. Maybe not the right time? I am pretty sure I am still grieving this loss and the fact that I can't have biological children. Some days it's all too much. But then I also think, well maybe if I try one more time.... there might still be a good egg. Everyone keeps telling me, you only need 1 good egg. I'm going to drive myself crazy!
So, I just wanted to say- you are not alone and that I am thinking about you!

I've been feeling so much of what you've all said. My second FET failed (got my results on 8/14) and I'm really struggling with what to do next. I know I should be hopeful because I have another shot with more frozen, but I lose part of me with each failure and can't imagine it working as this whole process has been constant bad news.

My sister in law and good friend both gave birth in July and I don't feel angry or jealous, just numb. I really just don't care. When they send me an update or pictures of them / the baby, I don't know what to say as I just don't care.

Sorry about your failed cycles. Dealing with a failed IVF cycle can be a frightening and hopeless time for many people. After everything you have been through it can be very difficult to accept that there will not be a baby at the end of it all. If high-quality embryos have been frozen, then you still have a very good chance of conceiving. If not, then you may feel you have hit a dead end. It is important to note that failed IVF cycles can provide information for a successful next IVF treatment. Many issues seen in a failed first IVF attempt can be addressed in order to eliminate or reduce the likelihood of the same issue occurring in a second try with IVF.
