Has anyone ever had a endometrial scratch? I have had 1 IVF fresh transfer that implanted, but I lost. The 1 FET that was negative. My doctor suggested for my next FET that I try an endometrial scratch. It doesn't sound very pleasant, and I was curious to see if anyone else has had one...

Hi! - does your doctor wants to perform a biopsy or just scratch the endometrium to increase implementation chances?

I had a biopsy and unfortunately came back that my uterus is not receptive - it's out of sync, the biopsy its not a big deal, i didn't feel anything. But i have a friend that went through the scratch to increase implementation chances and worked for her - she mentioned is not pleasant but totally worth it!
For my case the doctor will stop my period for 3 months so it can resent itself, i will then be doing the scratch for implementation purposes. Hope this helps.....

Thanks for the reply!

My Dr. had brought it up as a way to increase implantation chances. She said there is mixed data on its effectiveness, but I am willing to try anything to increase my chances. I will be trying it when we start treatment up again.

Renata19... one more question- how far along is your friend who did the scratch? Did she have a healthy pregnancy?

My friend went to have a normal pregnancy and has a beautiful 4 months old - there is mixed data on everything! if you trust your doctor i will follow the suggestion..... good luck!

Hi blbnif, Im sorry for that. But its widely known that women who have had multiple failed IVF cycles, (despite seemingly good quality embryos) may be candidates for what is called endometrial scratching. Can endometrial scratching boost IVF success rates? Undoubtedly, yes! Endometrial scratching appears to improve the implantation rate of a subsequent cycle.
It involves performing an endometrial biopsy around day 21 of the menstrual cycle. A small sample of endometrial tissue will be obtained. The procedure often causes cramping. So they recommend taking an over-the-counter pain reliever ahead of time. Besides it can also be done at the time of a hysteroscopy.
It is believed that disrupting the lining of the uterus releases growth factors that help to improve embryo implantation. Ladies who have failed two or more IVF cycles seem to benefit the most from this procedure.
Some studies suggest that endometrial scratching may be as much as 70% more likely to result in a clinical pregnancy as opposed to no treatment (in patients with more than two prior failed cycles).
Seems, like thats all on the point. So if your doc is sure its better for you to try this option, then why not? It IS unpleasant but still youll do everything now to boost your following chance of success.
