I just had my ER this am, and I am in a lot of pain, more than I expected. In fact, my last ER was a breeze, I had no pain, and made my husband stop at Dunkin Donuts on the way home! The Doctor had to retrieve through the abdomen from my right ovary last time, but still I had almost no pain, although I did get a mild case of OHSS afterward. I am disappointed that I am in the condition I am in now. I was hoping that someone could tell me how their ER went, just curious about the ranges that some of you have experienced. My last ER netted us 19 eggs, 15 fertilized, with 3 transferred on day 3 (BFN) and 3 frozen, transferred 2 months later (again a BFN). This time we got 26 eggs, and they had to go through my abdomen again for that damn right ovary, and when that didn't work they went vaginally and successfully retrieved. I also had to do a bowel prep yesterday with Magnesium Citrate which was just awesome(this was because they assumed they were going to have trouble on that right side again and were hoping with a clear bowel they could get to the ovary easier). All in all as I write this I guess I can see why I am in so much pain, but was hoping to see some stories from others so I know I'm not alone! And sorry for TMI!

I was in tremendous pain after my ER. I had pain all the way up to my right shoulder (doctor told me there is a nerve from the reporductive area that travels up the right side of the chest.) It last for about three days. Much worse than pain from menstrual cramps. Hope you feel better soon!

I have not had any Er's yet so can't say I have an experience to share. I do hope you feel better. The best is to rest and let it heal you.
I am encouraged to read your note. i have a high left ovary and did not know what they did to retrieve eggs from high ovaries or if they never get eggs from high ovaries.. Thanks for the info. I have ER first week August.
I wish this cycle is successful.

I felt like I got hit by a bus the day after the egg retrieval. I always thought it was strange that the RE's office said you could go to work the next day - not me! They gave me codeine for pain, but narcotics don't agree w/ me and so that didn't really help. I hope you're feeling better now.

I was in a lot of pain the day of my ER. I kinda felt like I had been punched in the stomach. The doctor gave me vicodin which did help me. I only took it the day of my ER. Tylenol worked well for the next 2 days. I took the day off work the next day to rest and then it was the weekend. Good luck I hope you feel better.

I was just telling my husband that it's so nice to see that I am not alone, that this pain can be normal for some. I am nervous about the transfer though, I still feel a lot of inflammation and pain, and can't imagine the U/S probe being smashed into my abdomen (ok I exaggerate but . . .) while they place the embies. To make matters worse I have become constipated and I can't help but think that someone is playing some kind of cruel cosmic joke on me. Let's give the bloated 40+ infertile woman a bad case of constipation while we're at it! For sh-t and giggles! I just found a picture that my 6 year old son drew of me, I am standing with a huge stomach sticking out, no doubt the image he has of his bloated mother waddling around the house this week. On a positive note, of my 26 eggs, 18 fertilized, and we ended up with 10 embryos, so we're excited!

Hi there. I am sorry you are having pain. Sounds like your ER was pretty complicated. I had my first ER earlier this month (BFN for me unfortunately). I had 19 eggs retrieved, 17 fertilized, but only 2 made it to transfer. I had no pain at all. My IVF nurse said some people do have a lot of pain and Advil might help, but to call them if it didn't work. I didn't even need the Advil. I really hope you feel better soon. Relax and let your DH take good care of you.

26 eggs, no wonder you are in pain. I had OHSS and had terrible pain. The day after ER I was so sick I had to go back to clinic and be put on IV because I was so sick. I could not walk or eat. At first my RE was going to cancel the ET but luckily I felt better in a few days. Make sure you let your RE know and good luck!
