Donor sperm? anyone use it or know about it?

MY DH and I were told today that our only option left is either donor sperm or adoption.... Does anyone know anything about using donor sperm? What is the cost like, and has anyone had a sucessfull pregnancy from it? We are in shock, but know that we will have a child, it just might not be biological....

I am sorry this isn't the news you were hoping for - on the plus side you still have hope that you can have a child!! Take the time to grieve the loss for you and your DH, there are lots of girls who use donor sperm on here and I am sure that they would all be more than happy to share their experiences - good luck!!

I believe it is reasonable compared to egg donation. I am sorry about the news. My DH was recently diagnosis with a fertility issue. Making decisions about donations is tough.

Hi and I am so sorry that you were given this news. I have a six and a half week old son, Beckham, from using frozen donor sperm. We were able to go online to our sperm back and look up profiles---we also were able to see pictures of our donor as a baby and/or adult. We bought three vials of IUI ready sperm and it was about $1500 for all three. We did the IUI's at home---I did not take any fertility meds. Good luck!!! Im using donor sperm as well.. in Canada.. you do get to see the profiles, with baby and adult pics.. the clinic will help you find a donor that carries the same feature as your husband.
I bought 4 vials, and I paid 2500$ for them... still waiting to get my first insemination..

I'll be using a donor...but first...

I'd call Columbia's woman center in NYC and Dr. Mark Sauer.

I went to a seminar and Dr. Sauer said there's no such thing as male infertility anymore. They'll go right into the testes and pull the swimmers out.

Again, I apologize as I don't know the whole story...but I really don't trust RE's all that much and I would definately get an opinion.

If you do go with sperm donation, Fairfax, California Cryobank and Xytex are the largest. I'm trying to find one in NYC so I can carry my own sperm to the office as the shipping costs are like $150.

Vials run for $400-$600 depending on open identity (which is what I'm doing) and education level.

There's also Pacific Reproductive - my fav - but no RE works with them that I know of. They're lesbian-owned and will ship to the home for you to inseminate yourself.

I think yourself and your DH need to check out Columbia and then really decide what you want to do.

You are both in my prayers. Infertility hits men just as hard as women.
