So sorry to hear you and your husband were given another punch in the stomach. Please try to hold onto hope until you hear back from your dr on the other test. I am going to include you and your husband in my prayers!

Might IVF with ICSI be an option, maybe? Or wait, I think you already did that with your last IVF if I remember correctly? From what I understand from our doctor, they pick the best sperm out of the bunch to fertilize the egg with. We were told that the ICSI part was $1,000 more on top of the IVF cost, but when we are talking $13k or $14k, all relative at that point.

Keep up the hope and faith! I keep telling myself all it takes is one good sperm!

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this now. It's hard enough to go through IVF and then now to be given this news. I remember we had the SCSA test done to check for DNA fragmentation in the sperm. I think I asked the RE what our options would be if the test came back showing too much fragmentation and he said that there is a procedure in which they extract the sperm from the testes, its called TESE. I think the theory is that the sperm gets damaged through ejaculation and they may be able to get the sperm before its damaged from the testicles. Have you discussed this option with your RE? What were the results of the SCSA?

Although our results came back fine, I did mention the test to another RE when getting a 2nd opinion and he mentioned that he has seen couples have healthy babies even with a poor SCSA result. I would get a 2nd opinion before moving on to donor, adoption, etc. Either they will agree your RE and you will make a more informed decision or they will offer other options. Good Luck.

I am sorry you are going through this. We did the testing prior to our 5th IVF cycle and found that DF had poor DNA fragmentation. I know he used CoQ10, Zinc and antioxidants. Our 2nd IVF cycle ended after ER because of male factor but we have both male and female factor so it is hard to say why we don't have a baby yet. What I can tell you is that after months of treatment for the poor fragmentation DF had his first some what normal s/a ever since we started t his process. His counts went from an average of 600,000-2mil up to a couple hundred million. His motility and morphology also got better. We did not retest his DNA after treatment but I do believe that what he did helped. Our 5th IVF was the only time we were able to freeze any embryos. Now, if they can just figure out why my body rejects them we will be all set!

We did not get a BFP but that was the only a few changes we made to our 5th IVF cycle and that was the ONLY cycle we were able to freeze any embryos. Also, after months of treatment that was the ONLY time in all the years of samples that he had a good s/a.

Sorry, I forgot to add a few things. When we tested it was an out of state lab so the stuff was sent to us and we mailed it back in a metal tank. Then they sent the results to our doctor. It was a little on the expensive side so that is why we did not retest to see if there was improvement. The treatment for it is what DF did. I don't know of any other reasons for his s/a to have come back so much better then in all the other years.

I know it is horrible to hear there could be yet another road block to reaching your goal of parenthood, but I don't think that it means you can't still have a child. I will pray for you to get good news but there are things DH can do if the results don't come back great.
