I was told that I was covered for femara and menopur as part of my insurance IVF coverage. WRONG. So now its another out of pocket expense for these. Anyone have any tips or places where I can get these (aside from the local drug dealer lol) without having to pay a fortune? Or am I just dreaming?? Oh, how I hate IF.....

Hi there,

My insurance doesn't cover Letrozole, either, but I have been taking my scrips to a CVS in my neighborhood where the pharmacist has been giving me major discounts (express scrips discount is the best one). The Letrozole ends up costing $12! However, my insurance does not cover Ovidrel either, and the lowest I've gotten for that is $108.

It's so frustrating, especially considering almost every insurance plan covers Viagra and other ED medicines, but women's fertility meds still get the shaft. :(

Femara is very inexpensive but shop around for the others. Keep looking for bargains: Walgreens, Freedom, etc.

I had a weird experience in buying letrozole. My insurance doesn't cover anything either. My first round of letrozole was over $300. I shopped around in my town, and couldn't find it any cheaper. However, the next time I needed to refill, it was only $80. They said they were able to get it from a different manufacturer. I was on 5 pills for 5 days. I still pay over $100 for the ovidrel. If you can find it cheaper, good luck and great!

I have 15 vials of Menopur, 2 Gonal F pens (if you are using these) and countless syringes and needles of various guages that I will gladly send you! I'd be happy to help- just let me know and I will get them out to yo this afternoon! Sticky baby dust ~ Amy

My RE referred me to pharmacy that specializes in IF meds. You might ask yours if there is one they can recommend. Some of my meds that weren't covered ended up being cheaper there because they are an IF pharmacy and it isn't something special they have to order like it would be at your normal drug store. Just found out today that Walgreens has a specialty "fertility" pharmacy they give discounts. Also there are a few online fertility pharmacy's Freedom Pharmacy is one and Briova is another. They are both very helpful! Good luck!

Also, i have UHC insurance and they covered my Femara- i think they thought it was for Cancer?! :(
