Confusing RE :[

Hi All, 


Just looking for some advice as I was supposed to do my first IUI this week. To preface, I have PCOS and do not menstruate or ovulate on my own. I have been on 7.5mg of Femara for 7 days. I went in for my ultrasound on day 7 and I only had one large follicle at 28mm (holy moly). The rest were 12mm or below. My RE said not to trigger or do IUI because she thinks the 28mm is a cyst. I was sent for lab work the next morning (LH and estradiol). That day I had a positive ovulation test. I didn't know whether I could have an LH surge with a 'cyst' or whether it was just a whopper of a follicle. The RE called me today (two days post US and one day post positive ovulation test) and said that I should have called her right away and that I would need to come in for IUI now. But now I don't want to waste the money and have DH miss work for a very poorly timed IUI. The feel like the RE did not do a great job explaining the plan or what could possible happen and I was caught off guard with the whole process. Being my first IUI, I could have used a little more guidance and instruction and now I feel like I've wasted this whole cycle. 


DH and I are still trying with timed intercourse just to give us a little hope. 



Any thoughts/advice????

Everything with infertility is on a learning curve and is extremely frustrating. With my first couple of IUI experiences, I felt like the Drs and nurses forget that the patient is not surrounded by the information all of the time and kind of assumed that I knew something if they knew something. It is perfectly acceptable for you to ask as many questions as you need to and to question the Dr's timing/actions. If you do not feel comfortable with an IUI because it didn't seem like it was timed right, then don't do it. Did the Dr. offer an explanation on why he/she still thought that the timing was right? I know how hard it is to not go through with a planned IUI, especially after taking all of the medicine, but you just have to think of the positive- now you are more knowledgeable about the process and will be more prepared on what to expect for the next time. None of this is easy and there is no "right" answer on how to deal with infertility bc everyone's bodies and situations are so different. We just have to take the information we are given and try to make the best possible and most educated decisions that we can. All of this is definitely a marathon, not a sprint, so try not to get too discouraged and get ready to move forward. Best wishes!

Thank you so much for your response. Being new to all of the processes is not easy. You are definitely right that they overlook explaining things for what they assume is already known. I will be sure to ask more questions and hope that they are the right ones!
