Do these two work the same?

Yes and no. They both affect how your body acts to make hormones, but they do it in different ways. If I remember correctly, clomid attaches to certain receptors so that more estrogen is created by your body. Femara prohibits production of estrogen so that more FSH is produced by your body.

So does this still help me to produce follicles

I like Femara better however I didn't get pregnant on Clomid or Femara. If I remember right, you are wanting to start an FET in march. I think that with most cycles there is some prepwork that needs to be done (Birth Control, Estrogen spp., etc.). If you take clomid or Femara there is a chance that you will get pregnant but if you have tried these treatments which I assume you have if you started an IVF cycle and they haven't worked then there is a good chance that they won't. There is also a chance that you will end up with a cyst at the end of your cycle on this medication. They usually resolve themselves within a month. I would hate for your FET cycle to be pushed back even more because of a cyst. If you have not taken clomid or femara before, your husband has no problem with his sperm, and both your tubes are clear, then I say do it. If it were me I would prob. wait another month and start my FET. That has the greatest chance of success for you. I hope this helped and I didn't just confuse you more :) Good luck!!!!

I have taken clomid twice and I did not get pregnant. I went to see my ob yesterday and I asked him if it would b ok to do this and he said yes and that he wanted me to try femara. He is aware that I had one cycle of ivf that was cancelled due to ohss and I explained to him that if this doesn't work I want to proceed with my fet cycle. I am so confused. As far as I know according to my ob b4 he recommended ivf I definitly have one good fallopian tube.I don't know. I'm getting so frustrated with this. Why do I have to go through this. I know I'm not the only one but I can't help but ask what I did to deserve this. Its so freaking complicated. I started the femara yesterday as my ob recommended and I bought some ovulation strips. I hope this doesn't make things worse.

I have been on both and I like Femara much better. 2 negative side effects of Clomid are that it thins out your uterine lining and it dries CM - both of these things are detrimental to achieving pregnancy. Obviously many women have success with Clomid despite these effects however it didn't work for me...it made my lining very thing. My lining was much better on Femara however I still wasn't getting pregnant so we switched to injectibles.

They both help you grow follicles, if your body responds to the drugs. Mine didn't respond to either clomid or femara, and the only way we knew that was because we had u/s to monitor follicular growth. They both help to grow follicles, but in different ways.
