I was all ready to start my IVF meds after my baseline ultrasound & bloodwork yesterday. Sadly, the doc found a very large ovarian cyst on the right side... and so now I'm on OCPs to suppress ovarian action and hopefully shrink the cyst. I'm so disappointed. I was nervous about all sorts of things going into this process, but a canceled cycle hadn't even crossed my mind. I was emotionally unprepared for this.

Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated. Is this common? Has anyone else had an experience like this and can you share your outcome?

I am so sorry your cycle was cancelled, I know that can be hard, my FET cycle was postponed for 6 months, after I had already paid for and started taking the meds and I know it sucks but you kind of have to take TTC delays in stride. You really do want to be 100% healthy and have the optimal environment for your embryos to grow. Trust your RE, they know what they are doing and they have your best chances for success in mind. Although I have never had any cyst to deal with, I know a lot of ladies on DS have had then and went on to have successful cycles! Best of luck!

I had an IUI canceled due to a cyst and then my first retrieval cycle canceled due to poor follicular response. I was so devastated about the canceled retrieval that I had to stand outside my office for 30 minutes after I stopped crying to let my face get back to normal, and even then, I left early because I kept tearing up. So I can relate! Like Mendolove said, though, trust your RE. My canceled retrieval showed my RE he needed to adjust my meds, and I had a much better response the next cycle. Good luck!

Thanks, girls. I totally agree -- I know I have to take this in stride... and I think I've been handling it quite well, all things considered. It just makes me feel like the clock is ticking. But I get it... a canceled cycle to make sure my body is 100% healthy & ready is better than going through the whole process and getting a BFN. And less expensive, too!!!

I'm doing my darnedest to look on the bright side. Sometimes it just gets tiring being so optimistic and plastering a smile on your face. Ya know?

Oh, I'm so sorry! I had been at risk for getting cancelled during the stim phase and it so hard to think of. I'm sorry you can't move ahead yet. Going into IVF with a cyst would be a bad thing. You would most likely have issues, and not feel good at all. Doing a month of suppression is very helpful and will set you up for a better cycle. It sort of calms everything down before the meds kick it all back up again.

I have had ovarian cysts in the past and they can be a big pain. Usually they come and go on their own, so the suppression will help them. I was taking evening primrose oil to help. Maybe check with your Dr to see if that will be OK to take for a couple weeks?

Honestly, I knew there was something going on, but I just thought it might be premenstrual pain/cramps. Even, for a little while, I suspected an ectopic pregnancy when my period was a bit late. My husband would see me laying on the bed and pressing on the lower right part of my abdomen/pelvis. I was like, "don't worry about me. I'm cool!" :) There was some pain during intercourse, too. So, I really shouldn't be shocked about this. My body usually "speaks" to me pretty reliably, and tells me what's going on within.

I'm just bummed to be waiting... again.
