I am a first timer for IVF. Just started my period and it's been so long since I have been on the pill that I thought I was suppose to start the first pill on CD 1. Just got off the phone w/ the IVF nurse and she told me to start on CD 3. My first question (and I should have asked her) is why do I have to be on the bc pill and 2nd question is why does she want me to start on CD 3? The bc pill pack says to start on CD1 or the Sunday after CD1. Just don't want to mess anything up...confused!
I'm a first timer for IVF just like you. I started by BCP this past Sunday and will be on it for three weeks. The reason for you being given BCP prior to the IVF cycle is to "rest" your ovaries. That's what I was told by my RE. Another reason is to try to prevent any cysts from forming on your ovaries. I started the BCP on day two of my cycle. If you're unsure about anything, call the RE's office. As much as I want to hurry things up, I want to follow my RE's instructions and not mess anything up. Good luck!
The BCP will control all your hormones, it will prevent you from ovulating on your own. We will be starting IVF #1 shortly and they told us they want to make sure the entire cylce leading up to and during is chemically managed. It is a suppression of your natural hormones.

I was always started with BCP on CD3. It will help to ensure that you don't develop cysts, and along with lupron (not sure if oyu are taking it) will suppress ovulation.
