Regarding your questions about follicles and eggs....I had 18 follicles and only 5 matured. They inseminated 4 and of those only 2 replicated and were re-inserted. Neither took so we\'re starting IVF #2 in June.
I wouldn\'t get too hung up on numbers right now. Each month is different.
birth control (bcp) is used to regulate your cycle so you won\'t ovulate until they want you to ovulate. If you ovulate too soon then the eggs are gone and you\'ll have to wait until the next month and start all over again.
The only thing I\'ve heard about not putting someone on the pill is if their cycle is extremely predictable. Otherwise the bcp is the safe bet. Wouldn\'t it be a shame to spend all that money, time, energy, shots, etc and then you ovulate early and it was a wasted cause? I\'d say do the bcp although I\'m far from an expert. This is just my experience. Obviously your doctor knows best.
Good luck to you.
When I started, my RE said that she would only put me on BCP if she felt that I had a lot of follicles - BCP & Lupron "suppress" your ovaries - if you already have fewer antral follicles than they may expect to see from your FSH level your RE probably doesn\'t want to over suppress you.
Be sure to ask him his reasoning behind his protocol - it may not change what he does, but you will probably feel more comfortable if you understand the whole process.
One thing that i\'ve learnt for sure is that alot of RE\'s do things differently and of course our diagnosis are all different and we respond differently to the same drugs. Wouldn\'t it be so much simpler if we all has "text book" reactions & treatments?
Good luck with everything & hoping this is your cycle! :)
