So I made an appointment with an RE next month, good news is they go through ARC which will help with costs, bad news it is 3 hours away!!!

There is another fertility clinic that is maybe an hour-hour and a half away but they do not offer any type of financial help. Not sure which one is the best choice.

This will mean a day off for both my husband and I but I want answers! Or at least someone with some knowledge of what is going on with us.

Do you even know if you need ARC?? Usually they are reserved for high cost procedures like IVF. Usually IUIs are around $450, plus any meds they may put you on. Most of the "diagnosis" part should be covered under your insurance. It's not until they start treating your condition do they classify as "infertility" and insurance then won't cover (at least in our case).

Do your research on the two clinics.....closer doesn't mean best. I would schedule a visit with both to see how they run their clinics, how involved the nurses are vs. the actual RE. Could be a short process to get you that BFP.........never know until you start, so even if you had to take a full day off, could be worth it.

I would make an appointment with both places and see who you feel more comfortable with. They will usually have you do a consultation before they start doing tests unless it happens to be on a day of the month that is perfect for something like a day 3 FSH etc.. I went to two different REs in our area and one felt way better than the other. I would also come up with a list of questions to ask them about how they handle things. For instance I would have wanted to know up front how they address thin lining with IUIs, how many IUIs they do before recommending IVF, if they will do a motility test during the initial sperm analysis (we had to get two SAs done because they didn't order the motility done on the first one, just the count). Also ask if you can have ALL the blood tests done rather than having the normal ones done and then waiting to have the more extensive ones like testing for clotting disorders - they usually only do this if you've had multiple miscarriages but it seems cruel to wait for that when it's just a blood test and they could do it up front. Anyways, you will learn a lot as you do the tests, but those are a few things I wish I had known to ask about up front. No two REs are alike and they will all have different ways of going about addressing your possible infertility. Best of luck to you!
