I've always considered adoption because I feel blessed in life and would like to share it. I would like to have a biological child (or two) and adopt one. I haven't yet looked into it, but I know I need to because it takes awhile. My only set back is the expense..I don't have the money to do IVF and adoption steps at the same time.

I 100% support those that do, actually I admire them and wish that I could be that kind of person. For my DH and I it isn't something we will do, personal choice.

That said, I know we are in about 3 wills in the event anything (God forbid) should happen to them and we will continue to support and raise our nieces and nephews who we are very close to (ages 6, 2, 2 months).

I considered it even before trying to get pregnant. My dad was adopted as were 2 of my cousins, so I have had a lot of mostly positive stories. I am now at a point in my life where I am wanting a biological connection to my child.
Adoption is a wonderful option, but I am not yet ready to give up on getting pregnant and giving birth to my baby.

I think adoption is such an amazing gift for all those invested in it and I wish there were more adoptions and much fewer abortions. That being said, DH and I don't think we will do it. There are a number of reasons why, the biggest being biological. Don't take this the wrong way, because we do not mean anything bad, but, we simply don't know if we could love the child the SAME as if it were our own. Yes, we would love any child we were blessed with, and we would do our best to raise it as our own but in the back of our minds, we would know he/she doesn't look like us, doesn't carry our genetics, etc. There is some unspoken, undeniable bond between biological parents and their children as they raise them from gestation to infants to children to teens to adulthood. I for one desire every step of parenthood, starting with it growing inside of me. That is what we long for and truthfully cannot get from adoption. The second reason being how expensive it is. I am not sure why IVF and adoption are SO expensive, meanwhile abortions are being done like no tomorrow. It seems odd that the price to kill life is so much less than the price to create life. Anyway, our careers are comfortable and we are fortunate to be stable but sinking so much money into anything isn't exactly ideal. I support those who have the will to adopt and I wish I had more of that in me, but I do not. So at this point in our life, we are not considering it. Maybe one day we will...

I still havent gotten to that point. I m still hopeful that maybe I will have my own child one day. If all fails, I would probably look into it since I cant see myself living child free. But they dont make it easy and its more expensive then if treatments.Its such a shame all these kids need homes but they make so you cant afford to get one. But its ok for them to live with their drug addict parents.

We are pursuing adoption at this point. We have had 4 unsuccessful years of i/f and we moved on to fostering. We currently have 2 boys. Although they are not legally free for adoption right now, we would probably adopt them. If they are returned to their parents, we will try again with the next foster children.

We were just so sick of not having kids in the house and not being able to be parents, that we took the extreme path: we put our own struggles with i/f aside and put the actual children and their needs first.

I admit that this path is not for everyone, but for anyone who decides that they want to make an even greater sacrifice that they ever thought possible, this is the way to go.

Of course we still miss the fact that I'll never be pregnant or give birth to a child, but at least with children in the house, the pain is a little easier to bear.

i support it but its not for me. personally we want our own biological child. i might change my mind as i get older and if we did adopt it wouldnt be a baby it would be older children who "aged out" of the system. since everyone wants a baby people look over the older kids who need love too

My husband and I have always wanted to adopt even before we got married. Our IF has just made use think about it sooner rather than later. I have done tons of research and looked at many agencies. I am ready to start the process depending on how my husbands surgery goes in December. I am really excited about it, because I don't think the surgery will be a success. This is what I am looking forward to and trying to think about.

we have decided once we get to the IVF stage we would rather adopt and know we would be given a child vs. sinking the same amount of money into IVF which could possibly fail. to us having a child isnt about biology its about love. its about sharing firsts as a family and watching our child blossom into his/her own person. This to us is a light at the end of a infertility tunnel. we still have a long journey ahead but we know one way or another we will have our baby:)

We will be fostering to adopt if after 4 years we are not able conceive. I will be a mother one way or the other.

I have always been open to adoption. Being pregnant was never my goal, being a mom is all I ever wanted. My DH only recently became open to the idea. I think he saw adoption as his own personal failure. I meet with RE tuesday because of multiple failed IUIs and if he suggests IVF we will move ahead with adoption and keep trying the "natural" way. I have a friend who went through IF for 10 years. In that time, she chose to adopt two boys and one girl. After 10 years of IF she gave birth to her "biological child" last october. Her love for her 4 kids is exactly the same.

I only hope to be a mom.

Thanks for all the responses. Its interesting hearing all the different views. I have always wanted to adopt, but dealing with IF has changed my perspective some. I guess before when it felt like a choice, i really wanted to help someone and "share the love" but now that it doesnt feel like a choice it feels trapping. my husband never wanted to adopt, but is now open to it if we can't conceive through IVF. It helps me to see it as two different dreams and at least i will get one of them, (even if one dream is bigger than the other).

plan4baby---i love your statement "Being pregnant was never my goal, being a mom is all I ever wanted". That is exactly how I feel. I look forward to the "mom" moments. Those are so more impornant to me than the pregnancy. I will be a mom no matter how a child comes into my life. Good Luck to you all and whatever path you take.

I have always wanted to adopt... The world is so over crowded as is... Didn't want to contribute to that so when I was young I decided I only wanted to have one.... And adopt the rest... I want 5 to 6 kids.... I love when things are a little crazy... Haha never thought having one would be so hard... Specially when multiples run in the family.., :(:( my uncle has adopted two boys that where teenagers... Just had typical teenage issues with them... People make adopting sound so bad but when you go threw the right agencys and get pared up with the right kids it can be just like there really your own...

DH and I both wanted to adopt and actual went down that road when we weren't having any luck conceiving the natural way. We went through the application process, got references, attended classes and were excited with that path. Unfortunately, the agency started getting unresponsive and eventually went under. We were devistated. We had a great reference to the agency and it just didn't work out. So, we changed paths and went down the IVF road and got our BFP with the first round. We have since tried another FET, with no luck. Hoping this next time around will work for us. I would still like to adopt, so we'll see what the future holds, and I will definitely do my homework better when I look for an adoption agency.
