Anyone end up getting pregnant naturally after an HSG? I just had mine today and it showed that my tubes are open... husband did semen analysis last week and that was all normal... so far we are just "unexplained infertility"- I'm somewhat relieved that there is nothing wrong so far but also incredibly frustrated that there is no explanation for why it's not happening? We have been trying since December of 2013, so just over a year now. Anyway, I have read that sometimes an HSG can increase your changes of getting pregnant (although when I looked for actual scientific proof, there's really nothing). Just trying to stay positive and looking to see if anyone DID get pregnant afterwards!

We are moving forward with fertility specialists, and will meet with him next month- so this is probably our last month of trying naturally. My OB/GYN said that if we do not get pregnant, we would probably go forward with either hormone injections/trigger shots or IUI (although she is not the specialist). REALLY hoping it happens this month... it's hard to get over the fact that conception will happen so... medically... if that makes sense. I want to just pee on a stick and have it be positive!

A friend of mine got pregnant following an HSG after two years of trying, so it can definitely happen. Good luck to you!

Also, know that because nothing's showing up now does not necessarily mean that your IF can't be explained. IVF showed us that Premature Ovarian Failure (POF) and a possible genetic disorder on one or both sides most likely led to our fertility issues. It was a relief to learn that there was actually a cause to my IF, but it was also frustrating because it took so long to find out. I hope this isn't the case with you. I hope you get a BFP after this HSG and are on your road to becoming a mom :)

Thanks so much for your response... I'm cautiously optimistic about this cycle, but I feel like at least if it doesn't work, we are all set to go to the fertility doctor. I was always hopeful it wouldn't reach that point, but now that I'm here, I'm just ready to get things going! My good friend had her first daughter through IVF and is about to start it all again, so at least I will have a buddy! :)

My doc told me that sometimes after an HSG it can clear out the tubes and people get pregnant. Not blockages of course, but any kind of mucus or fluid, he said it can sometimes be a clean flush. Hope this helps :)

Had my HSG done November 17, 2014, everything looked clear, on Nov 21-Nov 25 I became pregnant, currently about 8 weeks along. So it defiantly can happen.

It didn't happen to me, but another woman on this board had it happen to her about a year or so ago, so it can happen. For us, it finally took an exploratory hysteroscopy to show that I had a small septum (not picked up on my HSG) that was almost directly over my cervix. Once that got removed I got pregnant within 3 months, after 2.5 yrs of trying both naturally and with IUIs and diff. med combinations. If your HSG comes back normal that will be a relief, but it doesn't mean that nothing is going on. I would suggest a saline test as well, and if the meds/IUIs don't work then definitely a hysteroscopy.

hi, I'm just starting to go to doctors, too, after a year of trying. Do you want to be medical-testing buddies? I'm getting a little lost in all the information out there.

I share your regret about having to involve doctors in a process that you hope will happen naturally. My husband and I did get pregnant a year ago, but we lost that baby really quickly. It's been a tough year, but for me it seemed like it was better seeking medical advice, because at least it feels like I'm doing something besides waiting around indefinitely and getting disappointed every month. I still hope to get pregnant without medical intervention, but who knows?

Also, was the HSG an x-ray or an ultrasound? I had the ultrasound 2 months ago. I'm still not pregnant, but you never know...

HSG is an X-ray with a special die injecting into your cervix and it is monitored as it flows through fallopian tubes to show if there is any blockage.
