Oh yeah! I bled the first 8-10 weeks of my current pregnancy. I am now 18 weeks. Several times it got so bad I was sure I was miscarrying. Try to stay calm, notify your RE. They will want to rule out Ectopic first. But pregnant women frequently bleed in the first trimester. They told me to avoid strenuous activity and no sex. Good luck!

gcinOhio: did you cramp some as well?

I've spotted everyday brown, and twice bled heavily (bright red). Sadly, I've used more pads pregnant than I have in my adult life. I was diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma, which if close to the cervix can leak brown persistently until it dissipates (and in some cases, like mine, lots of red blood too). No "real" persistent cramps though. I've had back pain, stomach aches/cramps, and minor stomach twitches from what I think normal growing, but not persistent cramping. After the stress of the heavy bleeding, I did have cramps and a bad stomach ache (which scared me and caused more cramps) but I think that was from my crying and the stress, my stomach muscles actually hurt and then hurt my stomach. Did the cramps come before or after the blood? Before, it could be nothing, but after, could just be side effects of you worrying (like me). When I bled heavily I just kept saying, "But I felt fine all day, what went wrong?" and the answer was nothing, I was fine, just a freak thing.

Call your doctor, because they need to know, but every doctor tells me it is normal and they see it "all the time". Online doesn't do a good job of documenting the normal reasons this can happen!! Good luck.

Brown blood is usually old blood. My re has told me 30% of pregnancies have spotting.

I agree with everyone else, brown is ok, I think some women have pink too and thats okay, bleeding is ok in the first trimester, as the embryo sets up house. Some cramping is also normal too- there is plenty of cramping coming up over the next 9 months! (congratulations!)
