Welcome to the group! This is a very supportive group and I think you'll find it comforting. I had an HSG done last August, and it was fine. It's quite intimidating but it goes by quickly. I didn't experience any pain, just some slight cramping. And I had some cramping for a few days later. I wasn't told to take any Advil beforehand like I should've been told. You might want to do that. Just try to relax and control your breathing and you should be okay.

I also had an SIS done this past February. It was much easier and a lot quicker than the HSG. Again, just some slight cramping. It was similar to getting a PAP done, just a little extra cramping involved.

Welcome to the group! Most women just have some cramping with the hsg, so I'm sure you will be fine. I don't know much about the sis, but but I'm sure many ladies here have been through it and can give you some advice :)

The HSG I found to give my intense cramps for 15ish seconds, but it was partially because my RE filled the balloon too much. Then I had cramping the rest of the day.

I have had about 6 salines and they are much easier than the HSG. Only one really gave my cramping during or after the ultrasound. My only suggestion for this one is to bring a pad just in case they do not give you one and to sit on the toilet for a minute or two before you leave the office to let most of the saline leak out.

Welcome to the group, sorry for your struggle but it is good that you started going to a fertility clinic hopefully they can come up with some answers for you! My experience with an Hysterosalpingogram was simalure to LMWT, slight cramping not to uncomfortable, but I did take a 800mg Ibuprofen and my good Doc gave me a Valium to take before hand as well ... it helped, a lot ;-)! Make sure during the test the besides checking that your tubes are nice and clear also have them take a look at the shape of your uterus to rule out a Bicornuate uterus, the Hysterosalpingogram is the test that prompted a MRI to confirm that I indeed did have a Bicornuate uterus. I had a SIS done in March. MadCol3 is right, relax and control your breathing... I didn't do that very well, and I had a vasovagal response, and almost passed out on the exam table. My husband and the nurse and doctor were very helpful, and after a few minutes, I was fine. I almost didn't want to respond to this, because I didn't want you to worry, but I wanted you to know that even if you have issues during it, it is short lived, and having the results of the study meant more to me than that time of discomfort.
Oh, and take 800mg of motrin an hour before, so it has time to kick in.

Hi Julie, Welcome to the group! I am a radiographer and often help out with HSG examinations. I am from the southern hemisphere and our radiologists are really good with the patients and actually explain the images that they are getting throughout the exam. My advice would be to take some form of painkiller that you would normally use for period pain before the exam and take your husband into the room with you so he can ask any questions that you both have. Expect some cramping as others have mentioned and take a pad with you. At our practice, we provide the ladies with flannels, towels and pads in case they want to shower afterwards but not many do. If you want all the technical stuff about exactly what will happen step by step, PM me and I can talk you through it all.

Thanks for all the advise! I had the HSG done on Monday and I had the SIS done today. The SIS was actually worse for me, although both were pretty bad lol. I get really bad period cramps in general which I guess is why they were so horrendous after each procedure. However, both revealed that everything looked good so I guess I will take the cramps!

I had a HGG. My doctor prescribed me a valium as I was a little anxious beforehand. This totally relaxed me and it was a little uncomfortable but no more than a smear.

I think the thought is worse than the actual reality.

I have to be honest I don't even remember the initial tests we did when we 1st started going to our IF clinic. It was so long ago I can't remember that far back anymore. But I hope they find some useful info for you from these tests.

Welcome! Sorry to hear of your struggles with conceiving. You have come to right place. This ladies have helped me maintain my sanity. Feel free to ask anything. There are some ladies on here that are just beginning IF treatment and others that have tried many different treatments. The HSG isn't bad. You may feel some pressure during the exam and some cramping after but it's totally bearable. Good luck with your tests.
