You'll talk about all the things you've done to try and concieve up until this point, tests that any other dr's ahve done. If you have those results, bring them with you. Some REs will order their own, some will say the past results are ok as long as they weren't too long ago. You'll come up with a plan based on what you find out. Ask him anything you want to kno about the process, payment, chances, do's and don'ts, etc. If you want a lap, be prepared to explain why, and if it's really important to you, push for it! My RE kind of blew it off as many women have atleast a little endo, but when i pushed and she did the lap, I had tons to remove, and was most likely a major cause to my not getting preggo. Thanks! He already has the report on my last surgery that says I have severe endo and none of it was removed, so I think I've got a pretty good argument there! Do you think I should be prepared for a pelvic exam/ultrasound on this visit since I'm about 90% sure the cyst on my left ovary came back?

Your experience could be very different by my first visit was purely talking. There were no tests, no exams, etc. We went through all the financial aspects and discussed different protocols. She looked through my history and we talked about how to begin and which protocol she would suggest.

First off best of luck next week! I know we use doctors that work very closely and I can tell you what happened with me. I do not have endo factors, so that may change a bit what will happen with your appt. My first appointment was just talking, no tests. I had already had all my blood work done and DH had already given a sperm sample. She knew on our first visit that IVF was our only option, kind of a relief for me so that we didn't have to continue and fail at IUI. I would be surprised if they actually did a pelvic on that visit. I was scheduled separately for a pelvic exam, my Dr. did not perform this exam.

Anyways, we then scheduled an additional appointment that they called their IVF consult. That was when I found out everything, like what meds, how long, how it worked, etc. They try not to overwhelm on your first appointment. It is great you have report from your last surgery because the more info they have then the less amount of waiting you will have for any additional testing.

Just know that you are going to a top Dr., I would be with him if his schedule was better where we live.

I agree that they most likely won't do any tests/exams the day of your appt. Anything your RE decides he wants he will most likely put an order in to have done at a later date. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

My first visit was purely talking as well. RE went over the test results we had in the past and discussed our options, depending on how aggressive we wanted to be. Once we figured out the game plan, he prepped us for what we were going to do, what further tests would be run, when to call the office, when we'd have appointments for the first cycle, etc. It was mostly informational. I don't think the first appointment is ever anything beyond talking.

I think it will depend on your RE's typical protocol. I was referred to my RE from my OB/GYN's office and she had already sent over all of my medical records. My RE had already reviewed these, but we spent the first half of the appointment talking through everything together. He gave us a lot of opportunities to ask questions and was very patient. He also provided a lot of detail based on what he could glean from my files and our conversation.

But, I did have a pelvic exam that day, provided a urine sample, and both DH and I had our blood drawn. They like to minimize office visits, so we did as much as we could at the very first visit. The receptionist that scheduled us gave us this information in advance so that we could be prepared to spend a good 2-3 hours there and knew what would happen.

The only thing we scheduled for later was the hysterosalpingogram and some additional blood draws to look at my glucose tolerance (which takes 3 hours by itself).

My first appointment was talking, then a pelvic exam, then an internal ultrasound, then bloodwork. I also have severe endo. My RE then booked the lap when I was there for 3 weeks out.
