My experience (have had one iui so far) is that its a pretty quick painless experience. Your husband gives his 'sample' about one hour before your insemination. The lab will get a sperm count and percent of motility of the sample for you. We were tild that a count over 10 million and over 50% motility is good.

Then you come in and the nurse tells you the results of the sperm sample, they insert a speculum and inject the sperm. I had some cramping and spotting after the iui since they put a small catheter through your cervix to get the sperm where they need to be. They prop your hips up for 10 minutes and you are good to go and ready to start the 2ww.

This was my experience so other ladies may have had a different experience.

I`ve had 4 iui`s all were very quick and painless like a pap smear, The procedure was pretty much what ali has described, Don`t worry if you feel abit damp down there after the procedure it`s not the sperm falling out , when they pass the cathter threw the cervix they can dislodge some cervical mucus and thats what you feel, just thought i`d tell you as i freaked out on the first one thinking that the sperm was flowing out sorry if TMI

I had 3 IUI's. It was exactly as described. Only takes a few minutes then you are off to carry on with your day as normal. I went from work, then went right back. The strangest part is you and DH go separately! My doctors were great and very patient with all my questions. Ask as many as you have. It also makes the 10-15 minute wait ass you're laying there go by faster!

I had 3 IUI's and they went quickly. The funniest thing was on the first one my doctor wanted to be really nice and put the radio on however the song that came on right at that second was Frank Sinatra's "That Lady is a Tramp". I had to stop myself from cracking up because after the procedure you have to sit there for about 5- 10 minutes. There is nothing to worry about. I did all of mine in the morning and then went on to work. I wish you the best of luck. :)

Just wanted to say good luck on friday. Hope you get a postive. I havent done a iui yet. I just started injectables will be doing it this month. A friend of mine did a couple of them. She said its like a papsmer or hsg.

Sounds like everyone has given you a good idea of what to expect... You will do fine! They are fast and easy, it is almsot hard to understand how you spent so much money is such a short period of time! Good luck on Firday.

Good luck tomorrow! I just had my first iui about a week and half ago. It really is quick, easy, and painless. The most discomfort I had was from my RE adjusting the speculum.

Well that was all for nothing... I went in and the Dr. found that 5 follicles had matured, so he strongly suggested not doing the IUI this month and suggested that I have a consultation meeting again with my own RE (it was my RE's partner that saw me today) to discuss next months plan. I have only two more attempts left with this Dr. before they close their doors... I was really hoping to have a Summer baby, but alas.. During the ultrasound I was in shock at the size of the follicles and how many there were... the Clomid like hyperstimulated my ovaries. I asked if all 5 were going to rupture and release eggs and he said probably, and when I asked if it was going to be painful both he and the nurse didn't bat an eye saying YES! Great.... I've had to go to the ER for ovarian cysts rupturing before because the pain was so bad, and now they're saying it's going to be 5x worse??? This better work and be worth it in the end some day!!! OMG!
