We met with an RE for the first time on Saturday. He scheduled some basic tests my OB hadn't done and said he thought we should jump right in to an IUI. I'm all for that - almost 35, no time to waste here, you know?
Our insurance would normally cover IF at 90% (holy cow!), but DH had a vasectomy in previous marriage, so they denied us. We had it reversed and he is good to go, but they said it doesn't matter...even though IF seems to be my issue. We are appealing it, but in the meantime we are paying out of pocket.
So, my question is this: do I do the injections or just the oral meds?
A cycle using just the oral meds would run 600-700. RE says he thinks we have a good shot at it working. A basic cycle like that would increase our chances of pregnancy from around 8% up to 11% (big on statistics, this guy).
A cycle using the oral meds and the injections runs closer to 1700. He said injections help with better quality eggs, which would increase our odds to a whopping 22%.
If money weren't an issue, I'd be injections, no question. But it is. We have enough that we could do 1 cycle with injections. But if it doesn't work, then we're done...out of funds. We could do at least 2 regular cycles for the same price as an injection cycle. It would help my peace of mind to know I had a backup...if it didn't work, we had another try. But the injections increase our odds by so much. What if that is what will do it, but we play it conservative and end up with 2 failed attempts and no more money? On the other hand, what if we go all out, take the chance, and still end up with no baby? But we only had 1 try? I'm scared that would completely devastate me - to only get 1 chance and have it fail. I don't know how long it will take us to save up for another try. By then, I might be at the point that only IVF would work...and then we're really screwed.

So, we decided that for this next cycle we'll do Femara (oral) without the IUI and wait on the test results. That way we can make a more informed decision about what type to do.
I thought I'd be upset about delaying it, but as soon as we made that decision, I immediately felt calm and peaceful...so feeling good that is the right way to go.

I don't regret our decision but I do wonder if maybe it would have been more successful had we just gone with the IUI in the first place. Things happen for a reason though and I hope your further testing comes back with good results and that your BFP is right around the corner!!
