...I was given a book about positive psychology, and I'm totally geeked.
So. In my family, what I did right was never appreciated.
I was ignored if I did something right, hit/screamed at/emotionally abused for imperfections.
So I was trained to look only at *what I'm doing wrong*.
Positive psychology takes the tack of looking at what's RIGHT about ourselves...and that...I think that will really be a game-changer for me, if I do it.
So...this feels really embarrassing to be saying good stuff about myself in public, but I am gonna try it:
-I'm very compassionate.
-I'm patient.
-I'm very loving.
-I have a really good sense of humor
-I am a very creative problem-solver
-I am very non-judgmental
-I'm smart
...Wow, that was hard....

Gulp - that was hard. Now can I go back to putting myself down? It's so much more comfortable.
Really the only thing I received praise for as a child was to go shopping for my mother - sometimes three times a day - for things she had forgotten - we lived not far from shops. My father basically ignored me - even as an adult. They would never ask me for an opinion on anything .... But now,
I'm a good listener - most of the time
Have a good sense of humour - a bit quirky at times
I'm much more intelligent than I thought I was.
I've been able to learn heaps - have sat like a sponge at courses and workshops I have attended.
I have been a 'telephone listener' for people who need to talk to someone.
