Incest Survivors Support Group
Incest refers to any sexual activity between closely related persons that is illegal or socially taboo. Consensual adult incest is very rare. Incest between adults and prepubescent or adolescent children is a form of child sexual abuse that has been shown to be one of the most extreme forms of childhood trauma. If you or a loved one is a survivor of incest, join the group...

Could be you don't want to do anything to make yourself look sexually attractive.
Could be...that you try your best to ignore your body as much as you can.
Probably other stuff I can't think of.
What has helped me is thinking of my body as sacred. We entered this life as energy beings in no need of physical care or adornment, and sure I can criticize others for being "vain" but the bottom line is I feel loved and nurtured when I take care of my body.
Try something simple that does not trigger you. Lately I have been using mascara and eyeliner and it has made me feel good because my eyes are my best feature. There are some products that I don't deal with well because of past issues and triggers, so for your situation think about whether there is a product that would make you feel happier about your body and would not trigger you. Honor yourself as a creature unlike any other, and know that we came into this physical body not to neglect it or punish it but to experience sensation. Positive sensations and scents will enhance your mood and combat depression. Pure essential oils are 1000 times more effective than 'lavender scented lotion,' though, so don't expect results from commercial perfumes.
in the meantime if you want to hang out in sweats and not shower, why not? I am in yoga pants and a sweat shirt, no make up, need a shower, and I braved the grocery store and library in this sorry state. I feel fine! :-)
I don't think it's a rare condition, just look around at all the overweight or obese people who obviously never exercise and live on junk food. If that isn't self-destructive, I don't know what is.
There are just too many people who have given up on life and no longer care what happens to them. It's destructive to them and to society as a whole.
As RichieD says (I like the way he has described it)
"I think it's a form of depression. I feel it too, it's a kind of morbidness of the spirit. We just get fed up when too many things go wrong in our lives".
It seems very difficult for me to put into practise all the things I've learnt - the tools and strategies ..... Why do I have to make all this effort. It was bad enough before my two older children estranged me - I'm the one who helped them in various ways.
Terribly hard to process all that. Wish I could see my original therapist but I think she'd be retired now.
It's Monday - not a good day of the week for me. Oh well, I do need to get going and go shopping for food. I will make the effort, slowly, to wash, do my hair and put on makeup because, for me, not to is worse! I learnt that lesson many moons ago.! It may take a while.
Hope today is better for you. A Monday hug for you, ...
