Here's a thought.

Our abusers were weak.
Weak people.
They wanted to project that weakness outward, so they let power over us become a way to feel okay about themselves.
When they felt frustrated, unable to do what they wanted in the outside world? They took out their lack of external power on those whom, by nature, they had power over. Us.
Physically, psychologically, or sexually...regardless, they felt a need to rub our noses in our helplessness.
So a lot of us feel helpless, worthless, sad, and angry.
The truth is we are strong to have survived, strong to be going through the pain we were given instead of doing as our parents did-passing on their pain to us.
That we survived and have begun to heal...this is our first heroic action.
We are trying to fight countless centuries of abuse, passed on from parent to child. The evil of millenia.
You and I are heroes for stopping the chain of abuse, for realizing the sickness in ourselves and others, for doing the work we need to be well. As a result of this work, we can and will make this world better, one imperfect, healing, loving, justice-seeking person at a time.
We are in a battle for a better world, you, and I, and all the healing people everywhere.
Be glorious.

And are survivors strong? You bet your ass we are!!! I think it is the fact that we survived the abuse proves it and that we can then go on to lead lives that are not devastated or in ruins ---- WE ROCK! THEY SUCK!!
Thanks for the post - I hope others see that you have pointed out a very valid issue - abusers are weak and insecure - thus the need to hurt others.

I had a wonderful morning with my kids. We all went swimming with my niece, but I was lucky to have alone time with each of my children. My daughter and I as always had a wonderful talk. she is so wise and dear. My son is too - and he is so easy to please. Just being around him is like being in a garden at twilight magically lit up with fireflies. he just makes you remember magic is real. All he wanted from me was to swim with him. that was it. and the return was his wonderful smiles and laughter. Today as we were driving I told him how much fun I had swimming and splashing with him (we had a splash war). He turned to smile at me and his face was just frank, simple happiness.
I mention them because in them I see "glorious." As for the weak people who abused us, how pathetic that was what they saw as power. Love is the ultimate power.
