Hey folks, this is my first post - just joined today!
I was struck by moonstruckme's post about anger.
And I was curious - how do you work out your anger?
You can see my reply to her post on how I've recently gotten in touch with my anger, after directing it inward all these years. But now what?
Some things I'm trying when I feel anger:
- If just in the moment, I clench my jaw, and make my fist, and give it a quick pound on my thigh (nothing too hard or self-abusive, ha). Good physical way to release some of it immediately.
- If I'm at home, and it feels bigger, I take an old wine glass, put it in a plastic grocery bag, go to the backyard, and throw it against the fence. Then I don't have to clean it up, and feel "bad" about expressing my anger. This is pretty satisfying. (and I have to go to some garage sales to get more wine glasses).
- For a routine basis, I'm thinking about joining a health club (I need to do that anyway) and use a boxing punching bag. That seems to be a properly macho thing for a girlyman like me (ha again).
- And of course, the therapy letter - the ones you don't send. I've written one to my dad who abandoned me with my mom, but haven't quite written one to my mom yet.... And maybe I need to send that one to my dad, but that's for another post.
Okay, enough about me - what are YOUR ways of releasing anger in a safe, constructive way so that you get it out of your system? I'd love to learn more methods!

I have a hard time showing anger because I hate shows of emotion--makes me feel too similar to my mom. and people don't like seeing it. maybe thats why I like contact sports so much--its socially acceptable anger.
