Hi all, I have not posted here in a long time. I am back in therapy after a year or so off. When I was in therapy before I was looking into hiring a lawyer and taking my biological father to court on rape charges for he did 23 years ago.
My older sisters and mother were also abused, but no one wants to talk about it. I feel like I am picking up bread crumbs trying to figure everything out. Child Protective Services got involved but no charges were pressed. I tried to get the records of the call but they are all destroyed after 10 years if the abuser is not brought to court. Since that didn't happen the records are gone. When I found this out I broke down and gave up for a while. I was dealing with alcoholism and went on a bad bender.
Now I've been sober for two years and I am starting to be angry again and want to know more about what happened. I was adopted by my stepfather and I think there was a restraining order put out against my father, I want to know how all this happened. I was told by the state police that I need to hire a lawyer and file criminal charges to access his criminal reccord, if one exists.
My mom I guess knows about what happened but she is very emotionally unstable and a practicin alcoholic, I am scared to talk to her, we have never talked about what happened. My oldest sister still talks to him and lets her children see him. The other two sisters don't talk to him anymore but don't want to talk about the abuse. I want to scream at the whole world that my father beat and raped me for years. I am tired of feeling silenced. I want to know what happened. I feel like I'm going crazy sometimes. And I've been dealing with this for 12 years since I started having memories come back at age 18, been in therapy for a decade.
Has anyone gone to court, hired a lawyer, or a private investigator? I havn't seen my biological father since I was a teenager. I want to meet him and confront him but no one supports me except my therapist. Please help. I don't see an end and it makes me sick inside. I don't want to spend the rest of my life feeling like this

I wish there was no statute in my state.
I don't have experience directly, but a friend of mine was raped by her step father from the ages of 4 to 20. I never heard there was any records anywhere, but she took him to court about 12 years ago. ( she was middle aged).
The result was a hung jury, which means everyone thought he was guilty except one person. It was close, and she could have had another trial but she didn't have it in her.

I also get your anger, I was raped and sexually abused by my alcoholic grandfather and possible dad too. (it came up as repressed memory)
I was very angry for a long time, as well as waves of excruciating emotional pain, and many other things... I also acted out as a prostitute for many years.
But - I'm no longer in these states, or acting out. I'm a lot more whole and at peace these days.
it takes time and lots and lots of support, but you won't 'stay like this forever'.
