Does anyone wish that they could just tell people that their parents are dead and they grew up in foster homes and just leave it at that? Instead I have to rehearse what I'm going to tell people about my family before I meet them. " my mother's here, my father's there, so and so happened - Okay, I think that will do" I just want to keep it simple. "I'm an orphan, let's not talk about it, next subject please." If only it were that easy. But then again, the foster care system is a nightmare for many.
Dear Sunnydays I think Pumpkin has the best idea. No one needs to know everything. I have this urge to tell all and it's not always a good idea, plus you loose a certain air of mystery.
You can just say they're dead. It's a kind of truth.
You can just say 'That's confidential' with a mysterious smile, then no-one will feel pity. (personally - I hate pity).... just my thoughts.
I used to feel guilty, as if it was my fault that we have little contact. I'm over that now, but it's still hard to find an answer without getting into a conversation i don't want.
