If you can, face the memories in a spirit of interest. Ask yourself why you need to remember them, what is their message?

If you know it's coming, set up a safe zone to retreat into and to cushion you while they're there. Prepare some pleasant distractions and remind yourself that they are just memories, they are ghosts of the past and you are here and now.

simple things sometimes help - I find standing under a hot shower for as long as I want and giving myself a long massagy hairwash helps when the pressure is building up inside.
