New Therapist

I need to change therapists. My current one, I like, but she doesn't have the knowledge or the experience to work with incest survivors with dissociative dissorder. I found one that is wheelchair accessible, specializes in incest survivors and has experience with dissociative disorders. She is supposed to get back to me this week to let me know if she can fit me in. She also has a PHd, but charges a lot more. I'm a nervous wreck over this. It is very hard for me to start seeing a new therapist.

It is nerve wracking every time i try to talk to yet another therapist....Just can't find a good one.And i'm gun shy...

Good luck on the other hand a specialist sounds like a very good move.
As well intended as some of them are knowledge and experience does count for a lot to get yer monies worth...

This will be my fifth. My second therapist only worked with incest survivors, she was wonderful and I saw her for 10 years. My fourth and current is nice, she just doesn't have the experience or knowledge to help me any further. It's just a long process to get to know a new therapist and go through my whole history again. I should write a book and call it My Story.

Why don't you write that book? It would probably be a good exercise and you can give it to your therapist by way of introduction so you have less of the 'explaining yourself' trauma.

It wouldn't be a bad idea. If I did it on the computer I could insert parts as I remembered them. If I wrote it in a journal, I would have to leave lots of blank pages.
