I loved my mother. In therapy we were talking about the part of me that holds the shame about my sexuality.

My mother was in the room when I was sexually abused by a neighbor and she thought it was funny. That abuse shaped my sexuality my entire life. I was so ashamed. My mother also would throw things at me when I annoyed her. My therapist said this was abuse also. I would rather be with my mother than my father because he was mean and a bully when he abused me.

You feel the shame, but it is all theirs.
