Hello Everyone, I was wondering if I could join with you. I could really use someone to talk to sometimes.
I am 51 and female. I have 3 wonderful boys and 2 awesome granddaughters and my 2nd husband.
I live in a small town where everyone knows everyone. There isn't many people here that I can talk to. I am seeing a Therapist at the moment.
I guess I have delayed flashbacks....I have very little memory of the abuse by my dad. The parts that are coming back to me are terrible. My sister shared with me what she remembered of our childhood. It was awful.
So, I guess that's it for now.
Happy New Year !!!!

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

I had delayed flashbacks too - still have some. I suppose it could be good that your sister has been able to share with you because at least you can begin to confront it. that was not my experience, but the one person from my parents' generation I have told was very supportive and validated my feelings.
I'm glad you are seeing a therapist. My therapist has helped me a lot to deal with PTSD.
Happy New Year to you and welcome
I live in a big town with lots of anonymous people, but there's no one I can really talk to about my abuse apart from my therapist. There just aren't many people who can 'go there', which is why this forum is such a god send. I hope you get the help you need here.
