I find even the word "father" makes me feel dirty!

I can't stand the idea of a deity resembling that bastard, it's utterly nauseating.

And "God is in you," how disgusting that is!

I understand how people ca draw comfort from it, yes, but...

EWW-I want to scrub and scrub until I have no skin left !

I agree! Even things like "mother earth" and all those phrases that use mother and father make me think of my sick sick parents. I know these mean something different to 99% of the world.....

Usually I just try to ignore that feeling - but I'm glad there's somebody else out there who can relate!

I don't mind mother earth because it embodies what I aspire to be, but god the father is bollocks. I do think there is an energy or power that we can all tap into, and you can call it god if you want. But the idea that God is a father figure - either caring or vindictive - who is interested in us as individuals I think is fantasy or nightmare.

i have no problem with other people believing what they want if it genuinely helps them cope with life, I do have a problem when people wish to apply their god to me, or when someone's idea of god is used as an excuse for bad behaviour.

Man (constantly and probably always will) creates god in his own image.

I agree that people can believe what they want and if they find it helpful I suppose that's good. For me though, I have a real problem believing in God, especially as a father figure. I do believe we are spiritual beings and that we can use that power, but for me the concept of God is not part of it. I guess that spirituality is beyond my comprehension, but I do not try to assign it human characteristics in any way. I agree, God the father YUCK!!
