I just found out that my cousin was also abused by our Grandfather. I am five years old and I am feeling so guilty. I was 11 by the time she started to get abused, which is when things stopped for me. If I had told someone this would not have happened to her. She says she has forgiven and forgotten, which I don't believe since she told me. My immediate family is aware of my past, she has chosen not to tell her Parents. I should have protected her...
The only person ultimately responsible here is your grandfather. He had the power to make sure neither of you were abused by simply not doing it.
What happened to you and your cousin is not your fault.
The last time he was around us he had his new wife and a total of 5 kids. I could tell they were terrified of him, in retrospect.
I find it very sad...but I think had I remembered then, nobody would have believed me.
