Incest Survivors Support Group
Incest refers to any sexual activity between closely related persons that is illegal or socially taboo. Consensual adult incest is very rare. Incest between adults and prepubescent or adolescent children is a form of child sexual abuse that has been shown to be one of the most extreme forms of childhood trauma. If you or a loved one is a survivor of incest, join the group...
I used to feel like I was really bad. Just...bad. I ended up in a very abusive drug and alcohol rehab, at the age of 27. I stayed for 5 months, being screamed at what a fuck up I was. Because, deep down, i felt I deserved it. Anyone, with an ounce of sanity, would have run a mile. In this rehab, i was ostracised, and scapegoated, and in the end, after 5 months, I was condemned.
So, then I REALLY felt I was bad. condemned, in fact. Suicidal.
My therapist did an interesting thing, years after this rehab. I was telling him, in group, how bad I felt I was, But i was fighting it, resisting it.(because it was so hideous.) Well, he got me to SIT WITH IT, without fighting it. It took him a while to achieve this, as I was so resistant. And when I felt bad without the fight, i expected everyone to get up and leave in disgust. No one moved.
Later, my therapist checked to see I was OK, he was very compassionate.
Within a short space of time, the whole 'I'm bad' thing disappeared. It's never come back!
It was many years later that the 'condemned' thing was pulled out of me by higher power. Never to return.
I wish you all the best in your journey.
I alsways get torn between the feeling that I should not post, as my mother would have said"I am trying to make myself interesting" and the wish to write in order to expose the hideous tricks abusers use on us and travel with other survivors on our path to light.
June and Arbe, today I am writting another chapter of the "book"..It empowers me.
.I am contemplating one of these "instant bliss" cakes at the patisserie around the corner but it is lean cows at the moment.
Do something nice for you, too.
Loum, because of the flash backs, I am now forced to see it really happened to me and I have less and less resistance in accepting it.I used to blame myself for not having been able to push back my numerous abusers but now that I understand how the mind and body react under trauma and how our abusers took advantage of that, I am proud of being alive.
You can be too.I see you like those great masters in the Buddhist tradition who were called "great magicians" because they mastered all phenomena.
Nellie, group thinking is so powerful and frightening;Yet, it takes one person like your therapist to stop that scapegoating process from reappearing because that person could show what is right and wrong.I was very vigilant with my pupils when i was a school teacher.it takes one voice of a person in power to stop or encourage it.
I realised that, before me, my mother had been in the place of that scapegoat , more exactly sacrificial victim, and her mother before her.
So it goes in the world.Hitler's father abused him.Whole generations were poisoned by the "black pedagogy" denounced by Alice Miller in "For your own good".
Doctor's Schreber's best seller guide for children's education has lead to all thes sadistic practices to manipulate the child'smind so that the child becomes compliant. Our parents's generation were submitted to that pedogogy.
Nellie,it is a miracle we still have faith in a higher power.it has been my main fight, regaining faith.
One of my inspirations has been Etty Hillesum.in the middle of the concentration camps, taken to her death in the wagon to Dachau, she was still able to perceive the beauty and power of God .
I am fighting to see the Buddha in the eyes of my torturers.I am not there yet.
keep strong
I celebrate your journey with the many flashbacks that are leading you to your healing.
Some part of me continues to hide not wanting to know what really happened...but, I know, in time, I will coax that part to me and hold her close so she can whisper those secrets that have kept her buried in shame and fear.
I dread it.
Yet, each time I read one of your posts I know my full healing lies in discovering those things done to my body and mind.
I dread it.
But, I will do it because I WILL be free.
xx
I am also this way where I live a horrid memory/flashback and I dont know why. I also am glad afterwards because It means I am on the path to healing. As are you.
Its such a big thing, little by little is my motto.
The memory comes I believe when it believes we are ready for it.
Keep up the hard work and I wish you and you husband well.
You have come so far and you are an inspiration to me.
I dont think I can ever gain my faith in god however. I am glad you have managed to.
