Of course you should have talk therapy options like anyone else. It sounds like you have been unlucky or maybe dealt with inexperienced professionals. I myself have never been turned away because of incest issues, though mine are vague due to a lack of memories. Please don't give up - you very much deserve the support of a professional, and I hope and expect you will be able to find it.

My counsellor was invaluable, and I only found that psyciatrists are there to 'correctly diagnose your problem' and produce medication. So psychiatrists just do drugs, nothing else. Counsellors are where it's at.

You don't need a counsellor 'trained in this issue' - you need a counsellor with the emotional resilience to experience what they hear, and not fall apart. :D And that's what I reckon you've banged into maybe? People who can't cope with hearing it. My counsellor was very old. An old, old man. He brought patience, calm and quiet to the equation. He was fantastic, but he was fantastic because he was him, not because he was a trained counsellor. Keep looking for the right counsellor. :)

I am sorry you have encountered counselors who aren't very good. You might consider looking for a trauma specialist.

It's interesting that the counselor I saw for a few session during my college years correctly diagnosed me, even though I was not ready to accept the idea. He said I was probably being pulled down by things that happened to me when I was a young child.

I assumed that my family was the best in the world back then, my memory of the earlier years was essentially blank. So there are good counselors, keep searching.

Isn't it amazing, Richie, that we can maintain such delusions well into young adulthood? The mind's capacity for delusion is simply frightening.

Some people never get past that delusion.
When I was a teenager, I thought my parents were ok and that I had had a good childhood...heh!
It was totally my fault I was messed up, not theirs...

I had to see a lot of therapists before I found one that was helpful. It might be hindered by where you live? For example, I don't really have therapy options. I can go to treatment for BPD but it's confrontational and blames victims. I can see a counselor to talk, which is helpful - but so is talking to other survivors.

If you want to talk, this is a great place for it. I've found it extremely valuable.

It sounds like you just have to find the right person to help treat you. Some therapists are much better and more professional than others. I hope you find someone that suits you soon!

It can take a while to find someone suitable - we have (in New Zealand) nearly free counselling paid for by ACC - sensitive claims unit - for sexual abuse, incest, rape etc. (ACC is short for Accident Compensation Corporation). I have been to several of their counsellors as I lived in several places. One or two were really good but others have been pretty useless. I remember back to one of the good ones and think about what she said to me - AND she listened to me.

I believe the 'talking therapies' are helpful - along with medication if needed.

It sucks there is a shortage of good therapists...Real shortage.
And its not like if they mess up you can sue....we just waste our money because is just their word vs ours.
