Building a Wall.

I'm afraid I have began to rebuild a wall around myself. I'm quickly losing my ability to speak, beginning to step backward in healing. I'm starting to cut myself off from the outside world. I'm becoming to scared to even leave my own house, even to step out of my room. There's fear that I can't control. More and more memories.... Worse than I imagined... I fear for my future and I fear people. I'm worried that soon I may be completely trapped by fear. What do I do?

Years ago I made a choice. I decided that I was not going to let fear dictate my whole life. The fear never went away, everything I did was in spite of the fear I felt the whole time, but I knew I did not want to turn into a recluse. I knew I wanted to be independent and in control of my own life and the only way to do that was to go out, walk down a street, study, get a job, mix with people - everything I did put me in danger of physical attack or abandonment, but the alternative was worse.

From experience I can tell you that hiding away will not make your fear and the memories go away, but it will restrict your opportunities for healing and finding enjoyment. Please don't do that to yourself. You deserve more.

I find the only thing that works is to face your fears. That being said I can't always do that right away, but I find I eventually do have to face them or they just get worse.
