I was molested for 10 years from the age of 5 to 15. I will be 40 on Christmas Day and am just starting to deal with the emotions that go along with it. I have always been able to compartmentalize it and just say that it happened. But I have never actually dealt with the crap that comes along with it. And every one of my abusers are dead. Somehow a friend of mine and I started talking and I cried about what happened to me for the very first time. Since then, my heart has not stopped racing it seems like 100 mph. I am married and just celebrated my 14th anniversary on September 30. My husband knows that I was abused but not in detail. I'm not sure if I should actually tell him more details or not. But he keeps asking me what's wrong and I'm not sure how to tell him what's bothering me. I guess I'll be quiet now.

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

I also am recently dealing with some new issues and have been unable to really talk to my husband about it yet. It seems to me that he doesn't want to know. But sometimes husbands can be a great deal of support, so its good that you have been able to address it some with him. Maybe just letting him know that you are working through those things now and may need a little time to get through it will be enough for him to provide the kind of support you need from him.
Finding a therapist who deals with sexual abuse and that you will eventually feel comfortable with is so helpful. Go as often as you can and unload and process and then walk away for a while.
And come here to vent because we will always listen. Hugs to you on your journey.
I saw where someone else posted that people (husbands) don't always know how to respond to this stuff so it can be helpful to tell them. It is, as you know, a very delicate subject and he might need help to know how to respond. So if I were you I would talk about talking about it before you actually talk about it, if that makes sense!
