I never heard of it. It is natural to feel some attraction to those you love, but we have natural boundaries that preclude acting on those feelings with family members. It sounds like your brother violated your boundaries without regard for your feelings. That's abuse.

The research that I have read on pheromones - the hormones we emit and respond to unconsciously says the opposite - that we are not attracted to those with similar genes. But actually it doesn't really matter what the research says - as you said, he reeled you in. He was using whatever argument he could, true or not, to persuade you to do what he wanted. He had no respect for your feelings or desires. This is what matters.

as breaking and donnawanda said, the half-brother did not respect your feelings and he is the boundary violator. I have a half brother I met when I was 12 and he was 16. He is a good man. it was ironic because I remember a girl saying "he is so hot" and at the time I did not know he was my brother. I said yeah he's okay. I was not attracted to him even though objectively speaking he was attractive ... and he has always treated me with respect. When I found out he was my brother, the person who told me said she was worried I would fall in love with him. She was not worried about him because she knew he was aware I was his sister and this person apparently never considered the possibility of a boundary violation. I remember being surprised "you thought I might fall in love with him?" What I am trying to say is I think GSA is bunk. I can only base that opinion on my own experience. My half brother never was inappropriate with me and I never felt attracted to him.

but I will say this too. I think once a person has violated a boundary with me, I do want to feel attracted so that I don't have to accept the boundary was crossed. This was my pattern in my teens and 20s anyway. So once your half brother convinced you it was normal, I can understand if you felt attracted to him. It's a brainwashing I know I have done on myself so I would feel less powerless.

Yes I believe in GSA to a certain extent. But I think there are huge other factors to consider. I was sexually abused by my half brother at the age of 5/6 which damaged me hugely emotionally, and I had trouble recognizing boundaries from that point. I went on to have a sexual relationship with another half brother in my 20's which I now have enormous guilt and remorse for ....have overdosed several times and cannot forgive myself. I am a recovering alcoholic and drank on these things for most of my adult life. Therefore I get where you're coming from but look at the other factorsand please stay away from your brother...you WILL regret it.
