That is unprofessional and I'm sorry that happened to you. Di the therapist perhaps feel you were in danger? Still I know this is difficult. I went through a similar situation when I was 19. My thoughts are with you.

I'm sorry your therapist did that. One day during my freshman year of high school, my teacher took me out of the class and took me to the counselor's office. That teacher shut the door and he and the counselor sat me down to tell me they were going to report my abuse. I was TERRIFIED. I wasn't ready for this, and I was only 13! Ugh, I will never forget that day. I buried my face in my hands, leaned forward and bawled. I spent the rest of the day crying on and off and avoiding my classes. I found every reason I could to get out of class to go walk the halls, because I could hardly function the rest of the day.

I'm sorry that your therapist did this without you being ready, but unfortunately I don't feel a lot of therapists will hold off too long on reporting. If I sat down in my therapist's office right now, and told her something worth reporting, she'd call and report it while I was in the office during that same session.

Stay strong and trust that it will be okay. I had to go to the Child Protection Center where they did a physical exam, and then some lady named Shannon pulled me back into a room to ask me some questions. I sat in a room with a mirror that I couldn't see the other side, but there were two detectives on the other side watching and listening to this woman ask me questions. I was intimidated and terrified. But they asked my parents if "we" wanted to press charges. My parents said, "no," and from there, they just legally forced my cousin into counseling..

It was a scary experience, but it was one of the first times I felt the slightest bit of liberation and validation.
