I havn't made it three or four times in the last 3 years..but it still scares me to no end. I can not trust my body enough to go very far!:( It controls my life dang it!!!!

i was told IBS start in the brain???
Not sure wot to really think of that apart from i dont often get a really sore brain!!! if u get my drift. lol

Yeah Mrs.P, I have been caught in the wrong place at the wrong time too.Not to worry---you are NOT alone!!!!!!! I can tell from the cramping now when I am going to be "sick" and I adjust my schedule; often cancelling plans. Sometimes the cramps come about 1-4 hr. before the episode happens. Guess its God's warning system!! J.

It does actually start in the brain..well for me I believe. I know if Im realllly stressed out, or realllly nervous about something I often get much more cramping and diahrra. I think if I were always calm, and always stress free I would have alot less pain and bathroom visits. Who knows for sure though lol.

I've never been caught short YET...but I have had so many close calls. I can only imagine how embarassing that is...especially in public. When it comes, let me tell you something...I RUN. Hey, do what you gotta do.

I am so glad I found you all. I have suffered from this for years. No one has an answer. My sisters have it too. Two of us are worse. As I have gotten older I have had several accidents. I have been afraid to go out to dinner or lunch with anyone unless it's at the Mall where I can run into the bathroom. My friends have stopped asking. They don't really know what the problem is. Even when I went fishing I had to yell at my husband to get to land so I could run in the bushes. This in front of my grandson.
Then I tried not to eat on our trip to California. My only trip since I have had this. My sister told me to carry a large coffee can with plastic bags. Fortunately I only had one episode where I had to resort to that. This is so embaressing.
This year it has got so bad I wouldn't even try going anywhere. I am lucky I have a small house & two bathrooms or I wouldn't make it.
All I've ever heard is fiber, fibe & more fiber. It does not stop the urgency.
I have had three colonoscopies for polyp removal. I wondered if that damaged the nerves or something.
I usually will not tell anyone about this except my sisters because they have it too. I am sorry you all have this but am glad somebody out there knows what I am talking about. It has alot to do with not being able to cure my depression.

i have been there myself. you are not alone. it is not our felt we have this. we just got dealt a bad hand. i have learned to deal with it. at work i have gotten cramps and all of a sudden i run to the potty. i also learned that when i get the cramps i go to the potty and i don't wait. when i have to go i have to go now and i can't wait. i know how you feel hon.

omg i thought i was alone... i have always made it in time but that is because i always make sure there is a bathroom near by.... I dont do anything interesting, or even go to night clubs because my IBS is to blame... my husband gives me a hard time about it which seems to make it worse.... i went to sears about a week ago and saw a portable potty im thinking of buying it maybe that way i can finally enjoy life....

My uncle used to go to the drs or hospital the day before to make sure where all the bathrooms were, then he wld tell us all but im agoraphobic ( fear of getting out) now I wonder if this isnt the reason I am cuz Ive been caught many times to the point I had to carry a diaper bags with a change of wipes it all goes down from the brain the fear of going out to panic to nerves to bathroom you guys maybe on to something here!!

Twice in the last 6 years, and both times were literally 200 feet from my house!

My life revolves around planning and knowing where every public toilet is where i'm going.

I have even got a special key that lets me into the disabled toilets in railway stations as the normal ones are vile.

It's such a shame that IBS wrecks lives like this. I've had to give up all my hobbies 'cos of this damn thing!

I have thought of buying a portable potty. But how the heck does that help if your on an interstate hwy. Or out in the boat fishing. I don't get the cramps with the IBSD. It hits so fast. Maybe a twinge or two & I better get to the bathroom.
My sister & her husband wanted to take us out to dinner. It's a ways out of town. I said no because I don't want to ride with them in case it hits after we have the dinner, which it would. I sure don't want to be caught like that in front of her husband. She has it too but not as bad.
I am trying to give up dairy products just to see if it will make any difference at all. Lots of milk intolerance in my family. I never had a problem with milk when I was young but it seems to go right through me now. Ice creme, forget it. I'll be in the loo all night. It's worth a try. No doc. has given me an answer.

Once at work I came close but got lucky. I barely made it to the bathroom.
it was one of the very few times I was able to go in a public bathroom. I have IBS-C mostly and I cannot go comfortably at work. I need to have a locking private bathroom because of anxiety issues.

I have reached a stage that at times I am even afraid to take the dog for a walk because I can start off feeling ok and then suddenly the pain hits and I can feel the churning inside and know I have a limited time to get to a toilet or else disaster. Now when I go out I take an emergency bag in the car with me just in case.
