Hysterectomy Support Group
A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, usually done by a gynecologist. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Although there are conservative alternatives, hysterectomy is performed for uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, pelvic relaxation, heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding, and cancer.
Hi ladies...
First of all, this is only a thought but I have NO idea of the side effects both physically and emotionally and was hoping you could give me an insight.
I'm 20 years old I have Endometriosis which I have suffered from for 11 years. This year I've had two surgeries... My quality of life is almost 0. Hormones arn't working only making matters worse. I bleed terribly. My pain is unbearable and starting to re-associate itself or the endo is touching nerves not sure. I also have a thick uterus lining which has been infected before.
I'm going to try and exhaust all avenues but I hold hardly any hope. Last surgery I had the obgyn sent me off hoping naturopathy would help because he wasn't willing to give me hormones due to bad reactions.
I know some women would have gone through this for Endometriosis and I really need your advice!!
So far it's not been given as an option - but it constantly plays on my mind. I go back to the OBGYN tonight... I just I can't live..I have no quality of life. My period and ovulation is the worst time of month for me. But I have daily constant pain. (Diagnosed with Chronic Pain).
I've always wanted to be a mother...But I've always known something was wrong with my re-productive organs. It's just hard to comprehend and I need to know the side effects of such a decision.
I think currently I'm too young.. but if I don't find something that helps (I am VERY aware it is not a cure for endometriosis) my mental instability is going to get the better of me.

Have you sought out an endometriosis specialist? I know there may not be one in your area since there aren't that many, but I think this would be your best hope of getting your endo properly treated. The HERS Foundation at www.hersfoundation.org may be able to refer you to a specialist. This website also contains a list of the adverse effects of hysterectomy.
It looks like you already belong to the DS Endometriosis Support Group. There are also quite a few Endo forums elsewhere on the web. Before seriously considering a hysterectomy, you may want to read the discussions on this (Hysterectomy) group to see how other women have been affected. Many of the issues caused by hysterectomy aren't apparent until several years later (e.g., physique changes, back, hip, leg pain), Those who've had surgery recently may be relieved to be free of the symptoms that caused them to have a hyst and haven't suffered some of the consequences yet.
I did a search for "hysterectomy" on the Female Sexual Issues group and there are quite a few discussions about loss of libido and response after hysterectomy. Just thought you may want to also read those posts.

I see a professor in infertilty IVF and Endometriosis, he has set up a clinic for endometriosis and I pay out of pocket to see one of the specialists there. So I know I'm in good hands (FINALLY!) doctor wise.
I have been reading some posts here and some online posts also from various websites. It's something that would take some serious thoughts... if the cons outweigh the pro's sort of thing..

I went back to my OBGYN last night.. he is dumbfounded confused and worried that all my symptoms are back so quickly. He's sending me in for a colonoscopy and I'm going to have some blood tests done soon. He wants to find out WHY I can't take hormones and what else could be causing all this and/or aggrivating it. It's nice to know he isn't giving up on me just yet. But he knows I can't live like this forever. Hopefully these vast tests help yield some idea and hopefully some promising outcomes on whats going on and what can be done.
