A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, usually done by a gynecologist. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Although there are conservative alternatives, hysterectomy is performed for uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, pelvic relaxation, heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding, and cancer.

Hysterectomy and Orgasm

Is there anyone on this site who can have vaginal orgasms after their hysterectomy?  I heard that women don't have that ability once they've had their uterus taken out.


I have also heard of similar outcomes from hysterectomy alternatives (embolization etc.)

I still have orgasms but mainly from clitty stimulation. Sometimes I do use a vibe in there but I get really good results from a vibe on the clitty.

If you had uterine orgasms, you can no longer have them. I can attest from experience. All other orgasms pale in comparison, hands down! They are a ripple versus a tidal wave if/when they even happen. Libido is totally gone. I feel completely asexual. For a long time, the thought of sex was repulsive. This is a HUGE loss.

Just as horrific are the figure changes that result from the cutting of the uterine ligaments since they are the pelvis' support structures and keep the spine, hips and rib cage where they belong. The torso collapses / compresses and hips widen after hysterectomy which is why they develop big bellies and a flat back (no more waist or midriff). This consequence is probably THE least known by women who are considering hysterectomy.

Impaired ovarian function or complete failure is also common due to loss of blood flow. Patients need to do a lot of research to get the facts about hysterectomy since gyns do not divulge them to their patients.

fighting, may I ask if you have any knowledge, references or secondhand experience of embolization and the effect on orgasm? I definitely don't want a hysterectomy. I won't even consider it, thanks to women like you who tell the truth.

However I am still nervous thinking that embolization will cut of blood supply to more than just the fibroids and my sexuality will possibly suffer. What if anything have you heard about this?

Spiky - I'm sorry for my delayed response... just now saw your post. (I don't get email notifications. Did you get an email notification that there was activity on this thread?)

I have heard that embolization can negatively impact orgasms as well as the function of the ovaries. Also, those spheres they use can lodge in your lungs (and maybe elsewhere) and cause problems.

Are your fibroids causing a lot of problems? Do you think you may be close to menopause when they will naturally shrink?
